Hangzhou, 22 Apr (Xinhua) -- In the early morning, the rising sun rises in the east, the sea surface is sparkling, the cool sea breeze blows the fan blades of the windmill, and a steady stream of electric energy is generated along with the rotation of the fan.

Dachen Island, a low-carbon island in the East China Sea, starts its day.

At 6:50 on the 17th, Hu Haibo came to the bus parking lot as usual, wiped the windows, rearview mirrors, cleaned the interior of the car, and checked whether the car was fully charged. In 2021, Hu Haibo came to Dachen Island from his hometown of Henan to become a new energy bus driver. Every day at 7 a.m., he will drive the new energy bus out of the parking lot on time, carrying tourists between the island's attractions and homestays.

Dachen Island has a complex terrain and many ramps, and with the popularity of shared electric vehicles, shared new energy vehicles and new energy sightseeing buses, islanders and tourists have a variety of transportation options.

"This year, our new energy passenger ship project has been verified by experts and is expected to be completed by the end of the year." Yan Chao, a full-time member of the Party Committee of Dachen Town, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, introduced that by eliminating fuel vehicles and promoting the all-electrification of public transportation, Dachen Island can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45.6 tons per year.

At 11:30, Li Yuanyuan, the owner of the Haichao Inn, was cooking vegetables in the kitchen, heating oil, cooking, stewing, seasoning, three or two, a plate of delicious home-cooked large yellow croaker was out of the pot. Since April this year, the gas stove in the kitchen has been changed to an induction cooker, "The maximum power of this stove is 15 kilowatts, usually 5 kilowatts is enough to cook vegetables, and there is less smoke." Li Yuanyuan said.

In 2017, an inn on Dachen Island took the lead in replacing gas stoves with electric cookers, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 3 tons per year while reducing safety hazards. Today, out of the 48 homestays on the island, there are 31 "all-electric homestays".

At 14:20, when the sun was shining, Xiang Lingzhi, the head of the Dachen Island Sewage Treatment Station, came to the sewage treatment station on the island as usual, and he skillfully climbed to the top of the middle pool to check the water level in the pool. "On average, nearly 100 tons of domestic sewage flows here every day, and after multiple processes such as acid and alkali regulation, filtration, and phosphorus removal, it is reused or discharged after reaching the standard." Xiang Lingzhi said.

Today, the daily sewage treatment capacity of Dachen Island sewage treatment station reaches 800 tons per day, and the effluent quality is subject to the four types of water standards. Based on 100 tons of sewage treatment per day, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 883 tons per year.

At 18:30, when the sun was setting, the reporter saw in the Taizhou Guangyuan Fishery Big Yellow Croaker Breeding Base located in a corner of the island that the ice in the large ice machine was falling, and the staff Jin Weijun broke up and flattened the ice to prepare for the evening fishing.

In the early years, due to the remote location, the breeding base was not electrified, the ice needed to be purchased every day, and the source of electricity for salvage, processing and other links was diesel generators, which not only had high cost and pollution, but also easily led to the death of yellow croakers.

Nowadays, the aquaculture base has carried out electric energy substitution transformation in aquatic product oxygenation, water circulation, yellow fish processing, refrigeration, transportation and other links. Jin Weijun found that the survival rate of yellow croaker seedlings and the yield of yellow croaker have increased, and the breeding efficiency has been significantly improved.

At present, 426 reefs and reefs with a scale of 105,000 cubic meters have been built in the Dachen Sea, which are like "houses", building a marine ranch, providing a good habitat and feeding place for fish, and comprehensively improving the level of marine fishery resources and ecological environment construction.

At sunset, the lights are on. On the Meihuawan Commercial Street of Dachen Island, bustling tourists bring a lively atmosphere. From pitch black to the interconnection of mainland islands, Dachen Island, which once fell silent at night, is now as gorgeous as a night pearl in the East China Sea. At the substation on the island, Wang Haiqiang, secretary of the party branch of the Dachen Power Supply Institute of the State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company, is on duty, and together with his colleagues, he closely monitors the dynamics of the power grid to ensure the safety and stability of electricity consumption on the island.

Dachen Island has abundant wind resources, with an annual effective wind speed of 7,000 hours. At present, there are 34 wind turbines built on the island, with an annual power generation of about 60 million kilowatt hours, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45,000 tons per year, equivalent to saving 18,000 tons of standard coal, and 80% of the island's power generation is also used to feed back the land grid.

In Wang Haiqiang's view, on Dachen Island, everyone is using their own actions to contribute to the construction of a low-carbon island.
