Matthew Rhys, the lead actor of "The Americans," was revealed to join HBO Limited's new series and played the role of perry Mason, a fictional and legendary criminal defense lawyer. The show was produced by Robert Downey Jr., who would have played the role of Mason himself.

Rowin Jones of "The Exorcist" and Ron Fitzgerald of "Westworld" will be in charge of the writing and co-creation of the series, and the director is still in the works.

In 1932, when the country was still recovering from the Great Depression, Los Angeles was indeed thriving. Oil, the Olympics, and evangelism are in full swing, and there is a case of child abduction that went wrong. Based on characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner, the limited series will focus on the most legendary fictional criminal defense lawyer Perry Mason and his origins. When such a century of cases knocks on his front door, Mason's brutal quest for the truth behind it reveals a shattered city and perhaps a path to self-redemption.
