The ancients believed that if a person could roll out of the bed of nails and was alive, it meant that he was innocent and able to be exonerated.

Imagine rolling over a board full of hundreds of nails, even if he were still alive, what would the person's body have to be tortured into?
In Chen Haomin's "Living Buddha Jigong", there is a picture of the maid rolling the nail bed in order to prove the innocence of the young lady, which makes people very heart-wrenching.

Cannon burning
The third is cannon burning torture devices, such as an iron shoe called "red embroidered shoes" and a bronze pillar invented by Su Daji.
For example, "red embroidered shoes", when used, often first burn it red, and then let the prisoner take off his clothes and shoes and step on it directly.
In high temperature, people's skin is easy to stick to the hot torture device, and in an instant, it will be burned until the skin is burnt and the body is full of blisters.

Guillotine
The fourth type is the guillotine, which is one of the most classic torture instruments, and many death row prisoners are executed with guillotine.
And for different identities, the guillotine used is also different, and the dog's head guillotine, tiger head guillotine and dragon head guillotine appear in "Bao Qingtian".
The guillotine is not only used for beheading, but also for waist chopping.
It is better to cut off the head directly, and you don't have to suffer too much, but after a person is beheaded from the waist, he can't die for a while, and he has to endure unimaginable pain.
Just like Yu Hongtu in the Yongzheng period, after being beheaded at the waist, his fingers dipped in blood and wrote seven "miserable" characters before he died.
Wooden donkey
The use of these torture instruments does not distinguish between men and women, but for women, there were some special torture tools in ancient times, and the most well-known should be the wooden donkey.
It is believed that the wooden donkey appeared in the Northern Song Dynasty, and there is a description of the punishment of riding a wooden donkey on a woman in the "Water Margin".
Why do people call the torture instrument a wooden donkey?
This has a lot to do with the shape of the torture device.
There will be a four-legged thing under this torture device, which will look like a wooden donkey.
