Who would have thought
Gauff also had the day to leave Los Angeles
More than two years ago, Sean McVeigh and Jared Gough led the Los Angeles Rams to the Super Bowl.
A few months later, McVeigh said in June 2019 that he hoped Gauff would "work with me for a long time." The Rams renewed their contract with Gauff before the start of the 2019 season, and the contract was supposed to end after the 2024 season.
But now the Rams have decided to trade Gough to the Detroit Lions. Speaking to the media after the deal, Gough said he didn't understand why his relationship with the Rams deteriorated so quickly.
McVeigh cannot speak publicly about the matter until the deal goes into effect. But in an interview a few days ago, McVeigh was asked what had changed in his relationship with Gough over the past 18 months.
"I didn't know that a lot had really changed," McVeigh said. "A lot of things happened after that. I think one of the things I've learned over the last few years is that things change every day, and you may have to be careful not to write empty checks in situations where you can't predict the future. ”
McVeigh did mention that he thanked Gough for working with him and succeeding — including in the Super Bowl. McVeigh also denied that the Rams used Gough as a scapegoat for the underperforming of the offensive group.
"I think it's a very unfair statement that our performance decline is entirely a quarterback issue," McVeigh said. "Not at all. I feel like I certainly need to be very responsible. I have to reflect on myself, admit my mistakes, and be able to improve, improve performance and take responsibility. ”
"I'm not going to shy away from criticism that should be borne by me. But what I think is important is this statement, which is why the offensive team is not performing as well as before – which is unfair to Jared. I think that's disrespectful to his performance over the last 4 years. ”
But in the end, Gough left the Rams. McVeigh said he had a "good communication" with the former and admitted that there were times when he could have helped Gough better. But now, McVeigh needs to be ready to work with Matthew Stafford.
