The biggest innovation of the Wii U is its controller, also known as the Wii U GamePad. The controller contains a 6.2-inch touchscreen that allows players to interact while playing games. In addition, there is a camera and built-in speakers on the controller, allowing players to video chat and voice chat in-game.

The Wii U GamePad also allows players to play without the need for a TV screen. Players can use the screen on the GamePad to play games without having to disturb others, or transfer the game to the TV screen when they need it. In addition, GamePad allows players to seamlessly switch between games and other entertainment apps.

In addition, the Wii U introduced toys called "Amiibo" that interact with the Wii U GamePad and provide some extra content for the game. Amiibo are small plastic statues representing various Nintendo characters such as Mario, Princess Zelda, and many more. Players can place Amiibo on the Wii U GamePad to add characters or items to the game.
