Founded in 1922 by Jose María Toro Albala, the Tullo winery dates back to the estate founded in 1844 by Albala's grandfather.
Spain's top 100 golden wineries
Today, Château Touro is recognized as one of Spain's 100 Golden Winery and was named the 36th "Best Winery of the Year" by the Guia de Vinos Gourmets in 2021.
Château Touro was the first producer to commercialize Pedro Ximenez (PX) as a single varietal wine.
Tullo's wines have won many international awards, such as the gold medal at the Vinalies Internationales competition in Paris and the title of best Spanish wine at Le Grand Tasting Shanghai.
Terroir and brewing
Château Tullo is located in the town of Aguilar de la Frontera, in the heart of the Montdia-Moliles appellation, an area with large areas of Albariza soil suitable for the cultivation of PX grapes, the main production area for Fino.
The winery has selected plots with exceptional terroir to grow grapes, including Sierra de Montilla, Moriles Altos and Montalban.
In the production of sweet wines, the harvested Pedro Jiménez grapes are usually dried in the sun for 7 to 9 days to concentrate the glucose, then pressed, and then aged for different lengths depending on the wine range.
Some collections are aged in American oak barrels for more than 20 years. In addition, the winery has 2 cellars, Aguilar de la Frontera and Moriles, for the aging and storage of wine and vinegar.
Tulosherry
Currently, Chateau Toro Abra produces several lines of PX sherry, such as Seleccion, Convento Seleccion, Cosecha and Gran Reserva, as well as two white carnations (Dos Claveles Blanco) and Electrico Fino, among others.
Among them, the 1946 vintage Don PX Convento Seleccion received a perfect score from renowned wine critic Robert Parker in 2013.
