National model worker and heroic representative of Daqing oilfield workers.

A native of Yumen, Gansu. In 1938, he began to work as an apprentice worker in the Yumen oil mine, and after liberation, he became the captain of the drilling team. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1956.

He once led the whole team to drill more than 71,000 meters in 7 years, which is equivalent to the total drilling in 42 years in old China. In 1958, a national drilling record of 5,000 meters per month was set. He made the drill rig his home, and when he was most stressed, he worked for more than 40 hours without going down the bore.

In the spring of 1960, he was transferred from Yumen Oilfield to Daqing to participate in the Battle of Oil Capture. He led the drilling team to use prying, rope pulling, relying on manpower to get off the drilling rig from the train, transport it to the site, and put up the derrick in three days and three nights. At that time, before the water pipe was installed, he organized the team members and nearby farmers to bring dozens of tons of water with his hands, and finally drilled ahead of schedule, drilling the first oil injection well in Daqing, making great contributions to the mainland oil industry and being praised as the "iron man" by the masses. In 1966, the 1205 drilling team worked hard for 11 months and broke through the 100,000-meter mark, setting the highest drilling record in the world at that time.
