13 minus 2? After the showdown in our Foreign Ministry, the two countries may change their positions, and Taiwan's "diplomatic relations" are speeding up the clearance

According to China's Taiwan website, Taiwan media quoted the British media "Financial Times" as saying that Honduras and the Taiwan authorities to draw a line may just be the beginning. Guatemala and Paraguay may also change their position and break off so-called "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities. Among them, Paraguay will hold a general election at the end of this month, and the opposition candidate has publicly put forward the position of separating seats from "Taiwan independence". Paraguayan farmers and ranchers are also exerting influence in trying to get Paraguay to establish diplomatic relations with China so it can gain access to China, the world's largest beef import market. Guatemala will have a general election at the end of June, when the dangerous side from the government to the Congress will be re-elected, and Guatemala, which is currently in contact with "Taiwan independence", may change its attitude after the election. Tsai Ing-wen's "visit" to Guatemala comes after it was reported that the dangerous side planned to send high-level diplomats to China. The two incidents occurred at the same time, which is quite intriguing.

At present, there are only 13 so-called "countries with diplomatic relations" left by the deposed authorities, and it is possible that the "13 minus 2" will be further reduced to 11 by 2023. On the 31st of last month, the spokesman of our Foreign Ministry pointed out in a showdown with Guatemala that the establishment of diplomatic relations between 182 countries, including Hong Kong, with China fully demonstrates that the "one-China principle" is the trend of the times. China hopes that the dangerous side will clearly see the situation and make a decision to cut off its seat with "Taiwan independence" as soon as possible. On the 3rd of this month, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs further issued an appeal, pointing out that China expects relevant Latin American countries to see the situation clearly, oppose "Taiwan independence", and work with China to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Latin American countries.

Standing on the opposite side of "one China" runs counter to the global consensus and has great drawbacks. Recognizing the clear line between "one China" and "Taiwan independence" would be of great benefit to conform to the general trend of China's rise. On the whole, the establishment or resumption of diplomatic relations between Guatemala and other countries and China has three advantages.

First, it is more dignified in the international community, as one of the five permanent members of the Security Council, as the world's largest industrial country and the largest commodity exporter, and one of the initiators of many international organizations such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. China's international influence is increasing day by day in today's global changes. Whether it is the process of internationalization of the renminbi or the pace of China's continuous industrial climb, China is becoming more and more important. Establishing normal foreign relations with China, rather than standing on the opposite side of China's core interests, will bring about a huge change in the international discourse power of the countries concerned. The "Taiwan independence" forces have long been rats on the streets that everyone in the international community is shouting at, and the countries that maintain illegal relations with the "Taiwan independence" clique are also disgraced. The establishment or resumption of diplomatic relations with China will allow these countries to move from the shadows to the sun.

Second, it is more popular in Latin American countries. Represented by Brazil and Argentina, Latin American countries are promoting the process of economic integration. China is an important driver of Latin America's rise, and some countries that maintain illegal relations with "Taiwan independence" make it difficult for some China and Latin America to effectively carry out cooperation. These countries themselves have become "outliers" in Latin American countries, and they have also brought problems to Latin American countries. After the influence of "Taiwan independence" is cleared up as a whole, China-Latin America economic, trade, infrastructure and strategic cooperation will be more boldly carried out, and will jointly release greater development opportunities for Latin American countries.

Third, bring benefits to the relevant countries themselves. Nicaragua and other countries that have previously established diplomatic relations with China or resumed diplomatic relations have given "references" in this regard. Nicaragua's coffee exports to China expanded, and it also participated in the China Expo to explore more opportunities for cooperation between China and Nepal. China has helped build docks, stadiums and water supply projects in El Salvador to drive the development of Salvador's society, and Chinese vaccines have helped Salvin tide over difficulties. In Panama, the Pakistani side regards the Chinese New Year as a major festival in Panama, and China-Pakistan economic, trade and people-to-people exchanges have been closely carried out.

Establishing and developing foreign relations with China is the trend of the times and a strategic opportunity. Guatemala and other countries should base themselves on this actual situation, change their course, and work with China to create a future picture based on development.
