Teach people to fish: how to use Potplayer to automatically attach the subtitles of the original Blu-ray disk BDMV

PS: This article is only for the experience sharing of using Potplayer to play Blu-ray original movies and TV on your computer!

Through my first two popular science articles, friends should now know that the current Blu-ray original movies are presented in the format of "BDMV folder" or "BDISO", and both original movies can be played directly through Potplayer.

About playback

This is a Blu-ray original movie in "BDISO" format. It is actually a .iso format image file, and you can directly drag this file to the Potplayer player interface to play it directly.

This is a Blu-ray original movie in "BDMV folder" format. The original movie I downloaded contains 3 folders, but its film and TV parts are all in the "BDMV" folder, and you can see many folders and other files after opening it. Playback is also very simple, directly drag the "BDMV folder" to the Potplayer player interface to play!

Subtitle issues

Although many Blu-ray original disc movies are multi-track subtitles to choose from, there are also many without Chinese subtitles (such as some restricted movies, which have not been released in China at all), so we have to consider using external subtitles at this time.

The picture above is the original movie embedded subtitles, which have five subtitle files to choose from, but there are no Chinese subtitles.

Then I found 8 different types of subtitles in different formats. According to the subtitle conditions mentioned in the previous article, the subtitle file and the video file must be in the same folder, and the file name of the subtitle file and the video file must be modified to be the same, and Potplayer can automatically mount!

Finally, look at the effect, all 8 kinds of subtitles are successfully mounted!

"BDMV" format Blu-ray original disk movie with external subtitles

As mentioned earlier, the film and television files of the Blu-ray original disk movie in the "BDMV" format are in the "BDMV" folder, but after you open the "BDMV" folder, it looks like the picture above, and many other folders and files appear. The real film and television files are actually the "STREAM" folder.

After opening, it looks like the image above, which contains a lot of .m2ts files. This file is actually the same as our common .mp4 and .mkv files, it is also a video file format, which is simply understood as "HD video format". This file is directly collected and imported from the Blu-ray original disc without any processing.

The question is: with so many video files, how do we match subtitles?

For example, this "BDMV" format Blu-ray original disc movie actually contains Chinese embedded subtitles, but in traditional characters (because this movie was released in Hong Kong and not in the mainland). For a better viewing experience, I need external subtitles.

At this time, we only need to press the keyboard "tab" key when playing the Blu-ray original disk movie in "BDMV" format in Potplayer, and check which file is playing in the displayed information (both are shown after the file name), and it can be seen that I am playing the 00040.mpls file here.

And all the .mpls files are in the "BDMV--PLAYLIST" folder in the Blu-ray original movie in the "BDMV" format, which is incredible, right? Potplayer plays not .m2ts files in the "STREAM" folder, but .mpls files in the "PLAYLIST" folder. Now that you know this, then the problem is solved!

We just need to drag our downloaded subtitle file directly to the "BDMV--PLAYLIST" folder, and then rename the name of the subtitle file to the same .mpls file as the one when Potplayer played it (be sure to change the subtitle file name, not the .mpls file)! My side is playing the 00040.mpls file, so I changed all the subtitle file names to 00040.ass/srt.

When you restart Potplayer to play again, you can see that Potplayer has automatically mounted subtitles!

In fact, the content of today's talk is not complicated, so much is mainly to teach people to fish, so that everyone can draw inferences from the same problems in future watching movies and use the same methods to solve problems!
