It is a powerful assistant to take care of the home and herd horses and sheep. It is as strong as an ox, roars like a lion, has both rigidity and softness, can herd cattle and sheep, can understand the owner's will, and can drive away jackals, tigers and leopards. Adult Tibetan mastiffs can defeat three evil wolves alone, and can make the money leopard bow down. After learning about the magic of the Tibetan mastiff, people called it the "snow mountain lion".
The Tibetan mastiff is tall, well-proportioned, stout and strong, slightly rough, with a large head and a broad forehead, slightly rounded parietal bones, drooping ears, and an inverted triangle. The mouth tube is thick and short, hazu-shaped, mostly wedge-shaped, almond eyes are of moderate size, and the eyes are black and yellow. The neck is thick, the length is coordinated, and the laryngeal skin is loose, forming a ring-like fold. The chest is deep and broad, and the ribs are well opened. The back is straight and the abdomen is slightly tucked. The hips are wide and short, slightly inclined. The tail is long and curled sideways on the hips, shaped like a hydrangea ball. The forelimbs are thick and straight, and the claws and palms are hypertrophied. The hind limbs are powerful and the flying joints are solid. The mane is rich and the coat is clearly layered. The rump and tail hairs are extraordinarily long, and the lower parts of the head and limbs are short. Coat colors include: iron-clad gold, black, yellow, white, red, linen, flower mastiff, etc.
In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, Tibetan mastiffs were introduced to the Central Plains. In the Book of Shang, it is recorded that an ethnic minority tribe called the "Western Journey" contributed Tibetan mastiffs to King Wu of Zhou. Zhou Zhitaibao therefore wrote the article "Traveling Mastiff". In the Book of Yi Zhou, it is mentioned that the dogs of an ethnic minority tribe "can fly and eat tigers and leopards". The "Erya" gives the standard definition of a mastiff: dog, "four feet for mastiff". Zhang Hua of the Jin dynasty also mentioned in the "Natural History" that King Mu of Zhou began to raise the "four-foot" mastiff contributed by captivity.
The "Zuo Chuan" also records an assassination related to the mastiff: the Duke of Jin Ling instigated the mastiff to kill the good general Zhao Dun, and Zhao replied: "The mastiff of the king, the mastiff of the minister." And the "Three Kingdoms" even said that at that time, a good Tibetan mastiff could reach a high price of "10,000 straight money".

During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Fu Qing, the commander of the Qing government in Tibet, who accompanied the Panchen Master to the east, brought a Tibetan mastiff to Beijing, which immediately caused a sensation among the government and the public. The whole court and the field were amazed by the heroic posture and momentum of the Tibetan mastiff divine dog. The Italian painter Lang Shining was ordered to draw the "Ten Dog Diagram" based on the form of Qianlong's ten dogs, and the last painting of "Cangxi" depicts this Tibetan mastiff.

A long time ago, at the foot of the Potala Palace, flash floods broke out, and in winter, the earth was covered with a thick layer of ice and snow. People and animals are hungry and cold, plague is rampant, and the world is full of disasters. When people were about to despair, many living Buddhas wearing robes and shaking Zen bells suddenly came from the sky. Their mount is the Tibetan mastiff.

Living Buddha helped people end their suffering, the snow and ice melted, and the earth came back to life. When the Living Buddha was about to leave, people knelt down and prayed to the Living Buddha to protect their cattle and sheep and bless them.
The Living Buddha said, "The beasts are living beings, the Buddha cannot harm them, leave my mount behind to help you protect the cattle, sheep and your homeland." Tibetans cheered. Since then, Tibetan mastiffs have guarded the Tibetan Plateau, protecting cattle, sheep and grazing people. Tibetans, on the other hand, have always regarded the Tibetan mastiff as an emissary and protector sent by the Living Buddha.

According to legend, in ancient times, on the vast Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the main food sources of the great nomads were cattle and sheep, leopards, bears and some wild animals. During breaks in grazing, many herders hunt in the mountains with bows, arrows and knives. Once, a hunter was hunting in the mountains with a bow and arrow, and suddenly a fierce leopard emerged from the grass, and it roared at the hunter, who faced the sudden beast with an earthy face, and it was too late to draw the bow with arrows, and only death awaited the hunter.
Suddenly, a big dog fell from the sky, blocking between the hunter and the leopard, and the big dog roared at the beast, like a lion's roar, and instantly pounced on the leopard. The hunter was stunned by the scene in front of him, when the big dog with the blood on the body bit the leopard's neck and desperately tore and bit, the hunter quickly stepped forward and pulled out his waist knife and stabbed it fiercely into the leopard's chest, and the leopard fell to the ground with a scream, struggled a few times and died.

The hunter took the big dog that saved his life, carried the leopard back home, and gave it the brave name "Tibetan Mastiff" (meaning dog on the bowstring), and the big dog has been with the hunter day and night, guarding the cattle, sheep and hunters' homes. Word spread among Tibetans, who rushed to see the big dog and wished they could own it.

With the passage of time, the big dog gradually made friends with many wild beasts, and when the mating season came, it mates with bears, leopards, wolves, and foxes, and gives birth to many puppies, some of which are like bears, some like leopards, some like wolves, and some like foxes, they are held by the vast number of herdsmen, and they are the ancestors of the existing variety of dogs living in the vast Tibetan pastoral areas.

Until now, the legend of the Tibetan mastiff continues. In fact, no matter which legend, you can see the status of the Tibetan mastiff in the hearts of the Tibetan people, the Tibetan mastiff has long gone beyond the scope of dogs, it has become a family member of the herdsmen, their "guardian saint".

1. Black: The whole body is pure black without miscellaneous hair, and there are a few white stars on the front chest

4. The head of the Tibetan mastiff
The head is broad, the skull is broad, and the distance from the upper part of the canine nose to the back of the head is large and long, and it looks square in the distance, but is actually a dome. The nasal tube is broad, full and square.
5. Tibetan Mastiff Eyes
