Pit 5 has not been excavated since the last season, archaeologists will be the No. 5 pit as a whole packaged, do laboratory archaeology, this time Sanxingdui live broadcast site for everyone to bring a new weapon called super depth of field three-dimensional video microscope, through which we can more clearly and intuitively see the various ornaments of the cultural relics in pit 5, the texture of jade. The various details that were not shown to everyone last time, this time I made up for it! Walk into the microscopic world of cultural relics together ↓↓↓

What is the situation in Pit 5? The pit chief came to introduce

Li Haichao, from the College of Archaeology and Literature of Sichuan University, is the pit chief of the three sacrificial pits of Sanxingdui 5, 6 and 7, and he came to introduce us to the new archaeological discoveries.

Li Haichao, archaeology team of the Sanxingdui site sacrifice area: At present, the artifact layer of Pit 5 has been exposed as a whole, and because its left-right relationship is very complex, we may use some high-tech equipment to reveal these relationships later.

This artifact can be said to be the most important gold artifact found in Pit 5 besides the gold mask. Now only about half of the exposed part is exposed, the exposed part is 7 cm long, shaped a bit like an axe, with an arc blade, and there are 3 grooves on the surface, and a groove in the middle remains a green substance that may be inlaid. Its biggest feature is that it is relatively thick, most of the gold tools we have found in the past are forged very thin, the thickness is below 1 mm, and this artifact is currently seen in the thickest place is about 3 mm, and the weight is very heavy. A similar form is unique in Sanxingdui.

Pit 5 found 24k tiny gold beads

In pit 5 also saw some small gold beads, it can be seen that this gold bead is very small, under the microscope is not very large, what are these gold beads?

Li Haichao, archaeology team of the Sanxingdui site sacrifice area: We have been paying attention to these small gold beads for a long time, and their size is actually very small, the small one is only a few tenths of a millimeter, and the large one is nothing more than one or two millimeters or so.

There are two possibilities for how they were formed, one is the gold beads that drip down during the process of melting other gold objects, and the other is that the ancestors of Sanxingdui used special processes to make them. At the moment I personally prefer the latter possibility.

Why?

First of all, in addition to the small gold beads, there are all kinds of large and small beads in the fifth pit, which are used for decoration, and the small gold beads are likely to be consciously made.

In addition, we collected several samples of small gold beads in Pit No. 5 and did a series of analytical tests in the archaeological laboratory of Sichuan University, and the results were found

The pure gold content of the small gold beads exceeds 99%. The gold tools of Sanxingdui, including other gold tools in pit five, are mainly gold and silver alloys, and if they fall off other gold objects, the small gold beads must be similar processes.

So we now have such a speculation that the small gold beads are made by special craftsmanship.

If it can be confirmed, then this should be the earliest gold bead molding process found in China, which can be said to be very important. These are speculations and need to be supported by more evidence.
