1, redefine fuel cell vehicles - combined with user needs and vehicle efficiency design

In the early stage of the development of electric vehicles, the technology is very immature, and the models are not really electric vehicles, and they cannot really meet the needs of the actual operation of the fleet. Zhang Xiaofei and Zhang Huanong have both fully experienced the development process of electric vehicles, and they believe that the development stage of domestic fuel cell vehicles is now like the electric vehicles of 10 years ago, and drawing lessons from the past will help fuel cell vehicles achieve faster high-quality development.

Zhang Xiaofei: In the situation where electric vehicles have the upper hand, fuel cell vehicles should enhance their competitive advantage, it should be the main engine factory to consider what kind of fuel cell vehicle to sell, start from the demand of the whole vehicle, and then carry out the comprehensive design of the vehicle together with the upstream fuel cell system and stack manufacturers. The car designed in this way is in line with the market demand and has the potential to achieve commercialization. At a time when the fuel cell vehicle market is about to enter a rapid development channel, this premise thinking is particularly important.

Zhang Huanong: When we discussed the application of fuel cell vehicles with downstream users such as SF Express, JD.com, China Post, etc., they said that the cargo packaging is standard, and the load capacity is relatively fixed, while the existing fuel cell models are often occupied by more hydrogen cylinders and other space, which is not in line with their use needs.

This also makes us deeply reflect on the fact that fuel cell vehicles cannot take the old road that electric vehicles have walked, and cannot just "add" things to traditional fuel models, but consider how to make the whole vehicle layout more concise and operate more efficiently. This view only calculates the cost of the industry under the current model, which seems to be very reasonable; but if the costs of environmental pollution and climate warming in the whole life cycle, the whole industry chain, and the cost of climate warming are taken into account, and the negative externalities of environmental pollution are internalized, the cost of hydrogen fuel needs to be redefined.

In addition, driven by policy support, the performance of fuel cell engines is rapidly improving, and the degree of localization of parts and components is also improving, and large-scale production will inevitably lead to a significant reduction in costs. Fuel cell engine is the chemical energy of hydrogen is directly converted into electrical energy, no need to burn, energy conversion rate of up to 60%-80%, much higher than the traditional internal combustion engine thermal efficiency. However, at this stage, the efficiency of fuel cell engines is generally around 50%, and there is still a lot of room for improvement from the ideal state. In the future, between lithium batteries and hydrogen electricity, will there be a "you die and I live" struggle? Zhang Xiaofei and Zhang Huanong agreed that fuel cells and lithium batteries are not a relationship of "one after the other", but should "embrace development".

Fuel cell vehicles need lithium batteries as auxiliary power sources, because fuel cells cannot achieve fast start-stop, while lithium batteries can. In addition to the need for lithium batteries to achieve rapid start and stop, fuel cells also need the help of lithium batteries to achieve smoother operation and maintain long life during operation. The two sides work closely together to provide the overall operating efficiency of the vehicle, but also to alleviate the user's mileage anxiety, and the cooperation is actually very perfect.

From the perspective of industrial development, the development of electric vehicles actually provides conditions for the development of fuel cell vehicles.
