Sun Jian Zi Wentai, a native of Fuchun, Wu County, a descendant of Sun Wu. He worked as a county magistrate in his youth.
When he was seventeen years old, he and his father took a boat to Qiantang, and they encountered pirates such as Hu Yu, who came ashore from the dagger to rob the merchants of their money, and shared the loot on the shore, and the pedestrians did not dare to approach, and the passing ships did not dare to move forward.
Sun Jian said to his father: These robbers can be caught, please let me do it. His father said: This is not something you can do. Sun Jian immediately took the knife and went ashore, pointing east and west with his hand, as if he were dispatching several teams to surround the bandits. When the thieves saw him in this situation, they thought that the officers and soldiers had come to capture them, and they were so frightened that they quickly threw away the stolen money and scattered and fled. Sun Jian chased after him and cut off the head of a robber to bring it around, and his father was greatly surprised by this. Since then, Sun Jian's reputation has been greatly enhanced, and the state government has summoned him as a false lieutenant.
In 172, Xu Chang rebelled in Jurzhang County, proclaiming himself Emperor Yangming, and instigating with his son Xu Shao to raise tens of thousands of people in the surrounding counties. Sun Jian recruited elite soldiers as a county sima and obtained more than a thousand people. He worked with the prefectures and counties to fight and eliminate Xuchang. The emperor appointed Sun Jian as a salt descriptor, which was changed to Xuyi County (盱眙县丞) a few years later, and later changed to Xiapi County(下邳县丞).
In 184, Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turban Army, launched an uprising in Wei County, pretending to be blessed by the gods, and sent eight people to Qing, Xu, You, Ji, Jing, Yang, Yan, and Yu to preach taiping tao to educate the people. And the states secretly colluded with each other, calling themselves Huang Tiantaiping.
On the fifth day of the first month of March, the thirty-six parties raised the banner of rebellion together, and the people of the world responded one after another, burning the county and killing the officials. The Han court sent the general Huang Fusong and the general Zhu Jun to lead the army to conquest. Zhu Jun asked Sun Jian to be appointed sima of the Zuo Army, and since his hometown, he had been following Sun Jian for many years, and the young people in Xia Pi at that time volunteered to accompany him to fight in the army. Sun Jian also recruited merchants from all walks of life and more than a thousand elite soldiers around the Huai River and Surabaya, and fought with Zhu Jun, and was invincible. The rebel armies around Ru and Ying lost the battle and fled to Wancheng to hold on. Sun Jian, alone, took the lead and climbed the city wall, and the soldiers flocked to break the rebel army. Zhu Jun sent Sun Jian's combat behavior to the Ming court and ordered Sun Jian to be the Sima of the other departments. Bian Zhang and Han Sui rebelled in Liangzhou, and Zhonglang enlisted Dong Zhuo to no avail.
In 186, the imperial court sent Sikong Zhang Wen to take over the power of a general and go west to attack Bianzhang and so on. Zhang Wen asked Sun Jian to participate in the military and guard Chang'an. Zhang Wen summoned Dong Zhuo with an edict, and Dong Zhuo came to see Zhang Wen for a long time. Zhang Wen scolded Dong Zhuo, and Dong Zhuo replied very rudely. Sun Jian was also present at the time, and whispered to Zhang Wen forward: Dong Zhuo was not afraid of his guilt, but was arrogant and arrogant, and he should be killed according to military law for the crime of not answering the call on time. Zhang Wen said: Dong Zhuo has always enjoyed prestige in the Long and Shu areas, and now that he has been killed, there is no one to rely on in the westward crusade.
Sun Jian said: You personally lead the royal army, which is mighty and powerful, what Dong Zhuo do you still rely on? Looking at Dong Zhuo's conversation today, I don't want to listen to you, and being rude is the first crime. Bian Zhang and Han Sui had been acting recklessly for more than a year and should be discussed in time, but Dong Zhuo said that he could not, frustrated the military heart, and doubted the generals, which was the second crime. Dong Zhuo accepted the heavy responsibility without any battle merit, summoned him and stagnated, but was arrogant and arrogant, which was the third crime.
Famous generals in ancient times, who led their troops to the battlefield, resolutely beheaded those who violated military discipline to show their majesty, so there was the matter of Zhuang Jia and Wei Dai killing Yang Gan. Now you are merciful to Dong Zhuo and do not kill him immediately, which will inevitably damage the military prestige. Zhang Wen couldn't bear to enforce the military law, so he said: You should go back to the camp for the time being, so that Dong Zhuo won't suspect you.
Sun Jian then got up and left. When Bian Zhang and Han Sui heard that the large army was suppressing the border, their party members scattered one after another, and they all demanded surrender. After the army was trained, the imperial court ministers believed that the army had not fought the enemy and could not judge merit and reward, but they heard that Sun Jian was accusing Chen Dongzhuo of the three major crimes and persuaded Zhang Wen to kill Dong Zhuo, and they all sighed. Sun Jian was appointed as the Speaker of the Council. At that time, the Changsha thief Kou Xing claimed to be a general, gathered more than 10,000 people, and besieged the city of Changsha, so the imperial court appointed Sun Jian as the Taishou of Changsha.
After Sun Jian arrived in Changsha, he personally led his soldiers and drew up an attack plan, and before January, he broke through Ou Xing and other people. The Zhou Dynasty and Guo Shi also led the disciples to revolt in Lingling, Guiyang and other places, echoing the district stars. So Sun Jian crossed the border to pursue the crusade, and all three counties were able to settle down. The Han court, based on the merits established by Sun Jian before and after him, made him the Marquis of Wucheng.
After the death of Emperor Hanling, Dong Zhuo monopolized the government and ran amok in the capital. Volunteers rose up in all states and counties to attack Dong Zhuo. Sun Jian also raised troops in response. Jingzhou assassin Wang Rui treated Sun Jian rudely, and Sun Jian killed him when he passed through Jingzhou. The army reached Nanyang, and the team grew to tens of thousands of people. Nanyang Taishou Zhang Zhi heard that Sun Jianjun had arrived and was calm. Sun Jian presented Gifts to Zhang Jian with cattle and wine, and Zhang Zhi also returned to pay tribute to Sun Jian the next day. When the drinking was in full swing, the changsha master book came in and said to Sun Jian: "There was a document passed to Nanyang Taishou before, but so far the road has not been repaired, and the military money and food have not been prepared, please arrest him and hand it over to the main book to ask for an understanding." Zhang Zhi was terrified and planned to leave, but the soldiers could not leave around. After a while, the main bookkeeper of Changsha came in again and told Sun Jian: "Nanyang Taishou deliberately delayed the volunteers so that they could not fight the thieves in time, please arrest him and deal with him according to military law." So he dragged Zhang Zhi outside the military gate and beheaded him. The nanyang county town was shocked, and the demands of the volunteers were met. Sun Jianbing entered Luyang and met Yuan Shu. Yuan Shu recommended Sun Jian as a general who was also the assassin of Yu Prefecture. So Sun Jian garrisoned Luyang City to reorganize the army. When it was time to march against Dong Zhuo, Sun Jian sent the chief Shi Gongqiu to lead the troops back to the prefecture to supervise the military food.
Sun Jian decorated the curtain outside the east gate of the city, and set up a banquet for the public vengeance, and all the generals and their subordinates would gather in the banquet. At this time, Dong Zhuo sent tens of thousands of infantry and cavalry to meet Sun Jian, and dozens of light cavalry arrived first. Sun Jian was drinking and laughing, and ordered the troops to rectify the army and not to act rashly. Then the cavalry gradually increased, and Sun Jiancai slowly left his seat to lead everyone into the city, so he said to the people around him: The reason why I didn't get up immediately just now was because I was afraid that the soldiers would be chaotic and crowded, and you could not enter the city. Dong Zhuo's army saw that Sun Jian's soldiers were quite strict, so they did not dare to attack the city and retreated.
Sun Jian moved his army to liang jundong, and was fiercely attacked by Dong Zhuo's army, Sun Jian and dozens of cavalry broke through, Sun Jian often wore a red turban, then took off the turban and ordered the close general Zu Mao to wear it. Dong Zhuo's cavalry scrambled to chase after Zu Mao, so Sun Jian chose a path to escape. Zu Mao was cornered, so he dismounted and placed his turban on the burning pillar between the graves, lurking in the grass himself. When Dong Zhuo's cavalry saw it, they surrounded the burning pillar for several layers, and when they looked closer, they found that it was a pillar, so they left. Sun Jian then gathered his own army and engaged Dong Zhuo's army at the Yang people' place, defeating Dong Zhuo's army and beheading its governor Huaxiong.
At this time, someone was playing with Sun Jian's right and wrong in front of Yuan Shu, and Yuan Shu became suspicious of Sun Jian and did not send him military food. The Yang people were more than a hundred miles away from Luyang, and Sun Jian rushed to see Yuan Shu overnight, and he slashed at Yuan Shu with a knife and said, "That's why I am so dedicated, I go up to the country to fight against the rebels, and the generals to avenge their personal vendettas." I Sun Jian and Dong Zhuo do not have a bitter hatred, but the general you listen to the villain's teasing words, and actually doubt me! Yuan Shu immediately became respectful to Sun Jian, and was very uncomfortable, and immediately dispatched military food. Sun Jian returned to the station.
Dong Zhuo was afraid that Sun Jian would be brave and fierce, so he sent the general Li Xing and others to ask Sun Jian and his relatives to make Sun Jian list the sons who would serve as assassins and county guards, and promised to appoint them. Sun Jian said: Dong Zhuo has rebelled against the law and overthrown the royal family, and now he does not condemn his three ethnic groups and shows the whole country, and I will not be blind when I die, so do I still want to make peace with him? Once again, we marched into Dagu Pass and reached the land ninety miles away from Luoyang. Dong Zhuo immediately moved the capital west to Hangu Pass and burned Luoyi. Sun Jian then advanced to Luodi, repaired the imperial tombs, and filled the graves dug by Dong Zhuo. After finishing the matter, the leading army returned and was stationed at Luyang again.
In 192, Yuan Shu sent Sun Jian to Jingzhou to attack Liu Biao. Liu Biao sent Huang Zu to attack in the Fan and Deng areas. Sun Jian defeated Huang Zu and chased after Han Shui, so he surrounded Xiangyang, and Sun Jian climbed Da Nang Mountain alone on horseback and was killed by Huang Zu's sergeant with an arrow. Sun Jian's nephew Sun Ben led his generals to defect to Yuan Shu, who was also on the table and recommended Sun Ben as the Assassin of Yuzhou. Sun Jian had four sons: Sun Ce, Sun Quan, Sun Yi, and Sun Kuang. After Sun Quan claimed the throne, he posthumously honored Sun Jian as "Emperor Wulie".
