Hello World of Tanks players, whether you're a Cheqi Hegemony seeker who likes to collect tanks or a pioneer who likes to try out new tanks, this F-Series Tier 2 light tank AMR 35 is a must! Today we will break down the history behind this tank and its performance in the game.

The AMR 35 was one of many light tanks developed by the F Series during the "interwar war" between World War I and World War II, and the three letters AMR refer to the Automitrailleuse de Reconnaissance, which means "self-propelled reconnaissance vehicle" in French. The AMR 35 initially received no F-Series orders, and before its predecessor, the AMR 33, entered mass production, Renault thoroughly inspected and tested two AMR 33 prototypes in February 1934. Experiments have shown that weight distribution is a serious problem due to the engine being located at the front of the body. After the power redistribution, the ventilation and exhaust pipes were also moved to the back. In September 1934, the fragile suspension system of the AMR 33 was also modified and tested on a third prototype made of mild steel riveted plates.

During Vinson's first tests, the speed of the new tank reached 72 km / h, which was inconceivable for any tank of that time (excluding the Christie tank), especially since the engine power of the car was not high. The F-Series Cavalry officers noticed that the engine's reliability was somewhat poor, so the second prototype was fitted with a 432 22 CV four-cylinder engine, which was originally intended for buses. After such modification, the maximum speed of the tank can still reach 63 km / h, and the weight is controlled to about 5 tons. Subsequently, the car was designated AMR 35 and entered mass production.

▲ AMR 35 weapons in general

The AMR 35 is somewhat larger than the AMR 33, it is 3.84 meters long, 1.76 meters wide and 1.88 meters high. Its production combat weight is 6.5 tons, all vertical armor plates are 13 mm thick, beveled armor plates are 9 mm thick, and the roof and bottom armor plates of the hull are 6 mm thick. The AMR 35 used two types of turrets: the AVIS-1 turret was equipped with a 7.5 mm caliber Type 1931 Type C machine gun with 2250 rounds, and this model also had a spare machine gun that could be placed on a small mount on top of the turret for anti-aircraft purposes. The AVIS-2 turret was replaced with a 13.2 mm machine gun.

▲AMR 35 has a special suspension design

The AMR 35's suspension system uses four stronger load wheels. The two load wheels in the middle are integrated into a central bogie consisting of five rubber cylinders separated by small steel discs to form "shock springs", which, although they look rudimentary, avoid the problem of unreliable AMR 33 hydraulic oil shock absorbers. The tank tracks 22 cm and are supported by four top carrier pulleys. The wading capacity is 60 cm, the ditch crossing capacity is 1.7 m, and it is possible to climb vertical obstacles of 50 cm.

Because of its name "self-propelled reconnaissance vehicle", the AMR 35 is often referred to as a reconnaissance tank, but this is not true. In the F Army Armoured Corps, specialized reconnaissance missions are carried out not by AMRs but by AMD (Automitrailleuse de Découverte) vehicles. The only vehicles of the AMR 35 variant that really played a reconnaissance role were the ZT 2 and ZT 3 types, which were part of the Scout Unit. In general, as reconnaissance vehicles, they keep their distance from the main forces, looking for safe routes where the enemy or without the presence of the enemy is located. Other AMR 35s, on the contrary, were originally intended as part of the main force and were to charge as soon as the war began, and the main combat mission of the AMR 35 was changed to provide direct fire support to dismounted cavalry or mechanized infantry units, which used armored vehicles that did not even have machine guns.

AMR 35 at the parade

At the outbreak of the campaign in May 1940, the F Army had 178 AMR 35s on hand in May 1940. There were three squadrons of AMR 35s under each standard cavalry division and two squadrons of AMR 35 under each light cavalry division. Although the AMR 35 was so fast that the D Series did not have any fast tanks to match in 1940. However, due to the very poor command of the F series, the AMR 35 did not act well to their advantage, which led to the AMR 35 being either destroyed in battle with the D series (due to poor armor and weapons) or abandoned due to lack of gasoline or mechanical failure, which occurred mainly in differential, transmission or, more commonly, suspension failure.

After the "Lightspeed defeat" of the F series and the signing of the armistice, the AMR 35 received by the D series was renamed ZT 702 (f). Part of the ZT4 type was equipped with a mortar of 81 mm caliber, which became a de facto "self-propelled mortar". Most of these AMR 35s were used by the F-series occupation forces, and three AMR 35s were discovered in Prague in May 1945.

AMR 35 in the game

In the game, the AMR 35 uses a 25mm tank gun with an average damage of 27 points per shot and an average penetration depth of 46/68 mm. The AMR 35 has a base DPM of 952, which is equivalent to one shell in 1.7 seconds. The game does not restore the maneuverability characteristics of the AMR 35, its maneuverability is quite average, players can use its 25mm rapid-fire gun to teach the enemy a good lesson with the "rainstorm pear flower needle".
