Ye Xin's "Late Autumn Affair": broadening the literature of intellectual youth and presenting middle-aged love

"'Late Autumn Affair' is not a literature of young people in the traditional sense. I just want to try to present a moving story, a middle-aged love story that can penetrate people's hearts. On February 28, at the book launch held at the Shanghai Art Museum in Minhang District, writer Ye Xin explained his latest novel to The Paper.

Ye Xin

As a peer of New China, Ye Xin has always been regarded as one of the pioneers of intellectual youth literature. He has published 168 books on a variety of subjects. Among them, "The Lost Years" was selected into the "New China 70 Years and 70 Novels Collection". There are 8 novels adapted into movies and TV series, among which the TV series "Lost Years", "Tutor" and "Sinful Debt" adapted from the novel of the same name have caused a national sensation. His novels reflect the historical trajectory of the Republic's difficult twists and turns, development and changes from one side. It can be said that his work has influenced an era, even generations.

In the view of Wang Wei, secretary of the party group of the Shanghai Writers Association, Ye Xin is a writer who constantly challenges himself and constantly tries technological breakthroughs, and at the same time he is also a writer who constantly enters the masses of the people and is deeply attached to readers and the broad masses of the people, especially in his creation of the same theme, it is very rare and not easy to be able to constantly produce new brilliance.

This time, Shanghai Oriental Publishing Center published "Late Autumn Love", with a total of nearly 100,000 words, telling the lost and regained love story between Qi Dameng and Li Yue, friends of "my" young people, interspersed with the life stories of other young friends, reflecting the twists and turns of life destiny in social development such as going to the countryside, returning to the city to make a living, and going abroad, and interpreting a sighing middle-aged love story.

Although the main object of "Late Autumn Affair" is still the young people, the lives of these young people have entered late autumn, so the main era in which the story in the book takes place is the turn of the century, and the main place where the story takes place is Shanghai, New Jersey and other cities. They have an indelible imprint of their young people in their lives, but the book does not focus on their youth years, but focuses on their pursuit of love and the re-start of life after those years, in Ye Xin's words, "writing about universal emotions".

Such a work of "Zhiqing literature" that transcends the ordinary meaning was called the story of the "post-Zhiqing era" by Chen Zhiqiang, chairman of the Minhang District Federation of Literature and Literature. Wang Wei believes that this is a deepening and expansion of the established theme of intellectual youth literature, and also reflects Ye Xin's creative ability and vision.

The scene of the press conference

Ye Xin said that he was originally writing the three novels "Soul Death", "Marriage Death" and "Love Death", who knew that "just completed the first two and was entering the writing of "Love Death", a friend who had a knowledge of young people, when talking to me about his feelings after reading these two novels, told me about the middle-aged love that occurred in his young friends by the way, that is, the prototype of Qi Dameng and Li Yue in "Late Autumn Love". Three sentences in his friend's WeChat stirred up his literary thoughts, one sentence is "middle-aged people's love", the other sentence is "love worthy of praise and discussion in this year", and the other sentence is "If this material can become the theme of the novel, they will be very happy." They know I know you and talk about it." Ye Xin was first moved by this story, and also had the desire to impress more people with his own brushstrokes.

"There are more than 20 million young people, and there are many, many stories in it, and some of these stories are like Qi Dameng and Li Yue, shining with the brilliance of human nature. If you write such a story, you can write it into the hearts of the public, not just the minds of young people. Ye Xin told the surging news reporter.
