Informatics Myths! Have you stepped on these pits?

Times are changing, and so are parents' thinking. In the era when their children "do not have a little specialty is equal to lagging behind", many parents are very concerned about what the children around them are learning, lest the lack of information make their children miss some "opportunities". The same is true for informatics competitions, where some parents hear or see children around them learning informatics, so they let their children join the learning team. As for what the informatics competition is, what to learn, and whether the child is suitable for learning, it is not necessarily clear.

As a result, children may not like informatics or have difficulty learning, and parents may oscillate between learning and not learning. In the end, you either give up halfway through or you don't get a good result.

Therefore, whether to let children learn informatics, we must have a clear understanding of informatics competitions, the curriculum, a calm assessment of children, and a long-term plan. All roads lead to Rome, and the key is to choose the right route for your child. Below we have sorted out several misunderstandings in informatics learning, let's take a look together, have you "hit"?

PART TWO

Typical myth

1. "Others learn, we must also learn"

When some parents heard that some students studied in the competition, they did not get any results or did not benefit in the college entrance examination, or there were any adjustments in the policy, and they immediately wavered in their determination to give up the study of the competition. You know, children are different from child to child, each child's success and failure reasons are different, blindly following the trend is not advisable.

A typical example is that in 2013, the state canceled the guarantee of the first prize of the Olympiad Provincial Award, and many parents thought that the Olympiad was no longer useful for further education, so they gave up the competition for many years. As a result, in the 2014 independent enrollment, universities have more specific requirements for winning the competition, with greater preferential margins and more opportunities. Only those who persisted in their studies were given the opportunity to drop their marks in 2014 and 2015, while those who had the opportunity to win awards but gave up halfway regretted it.

The most important thing is to think clearly about whether you want to learn or not, and to have and persevere determination.

2. Study for a few months and want to "reap the benefits"

Wanting to "reap" after a few months of study is a very common mindset in the field of informatics and a manifestation of parents who do not understand the competition and are overconfident in their children's abilities.

Informatics competitions, like other subject competitions, are difficult to examine, and generally speaking, you must make a one-to-three-year plan to participate in the competition.

In the case of the Informatics Olympiad, it also takes a long time to polish to ensure the ability to participate, and if you want to participate in high-level events such as provincial elections and national competitions, you need a longer learning time. In addition to the basic course, it is necessary to digest the course content through practical operation. It is not for nothing to win the first prize in a short period of time, but such examples are not universal.

3. Feel free to attend a large-scale intensive training course

Nowadays, there are many kinds of training about competitions, and there are large-scale training projects such as "league training", "provincial selection training" and "winter camp" in the field of informatics Olympiad. Most of the intensive training is a short course, giving lectures on special topics. Many parents sign up as soon as they hear that there is a training camp without screening. What's more, participate in two or three intensive training camps in one vacation.

So, is it necessary to participate in the training camp?

Of course! However, it is necessary to understand whether the student's current ability matches the intensive training course attended. The content of the intensive training course is fixed, but the course is aimed at a large number of people. Under normal circumstances, intensive training courses will announce the content of the course, if the short course is going to teach a lot of algorithm and data structure knowledge, you need to carefully consider whether the child's level can absorb a lot of knowledge. Putting courses that require a long time to study in short-term intensive training has very high requirements for students' foundation. Some courses are only for provincial or national contestants, and such intensive training will have a greater psychological blow to ordinary students.

What kind of people are suitable for training?

For some high-level players or players who have participated in national competitions or even won medals, the effect of intensive training sessions will be better because their knowledge reserve is more mature. For ordinary students, instead of blindly pursuing accelerated intensive training, it is better to take a few more mock exams. The volume, difficulty and format of the mock test are similar to those of formal competitions, and the time is short and the frequency is high, which has greater advantages for players to adapt to the examination room and test questions and adjust their mentality.

Greater Bay Area Youth Informatics Programming Certification BBCC

Formal programming certification

The 3rd Greater Bay Area Youth Informatics Programming Certification (BBCC) is guided by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Internet Alliance, co-sponsored by Shenzhen Computer Society, Macau Computer Society and Hong Kong Computer Education Society, and co-organized by 14 prefecture and city science and technology societies.

At present, the BBCC has been held for three times, and more than 6,000 students from 22 cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have participated in the BBCC certification activities. More than 1,700 students in Shenzhen have registered, including Shenzhen Middle School, Shenzhen Experimental School, Shenzhen Senior High School, Shenzhen Foreign Chinese and other well-known high schools in Shenzhen, the number of students enrolled is close to 1/5 of the total number of applicants.

Online + offline registration

BBCC certification is an online competition, and registration is open from March to April every year, and it is held twice a year. Those who pass the online certification will receive the certification certificate and transcript (electronic and paper version) jointly printed by the organizer and the co-organizer.

The top performers in the online certification can participate in the annual BBCC offline competition. The offline competition adopts the IOI format, and the winning students will receive medals and certificates.
