There are brothers who are partial to the teachings and separate

——Big brother Lu Xun (2)

Perhaps because of the relationship of ranking, Lu Xun is obviously much stronger than Zhou Zuoren in terms of responsibility to the big family. This is not difficult to see from the purchase of a residence in Badaowan.

Because the house in his hometown in Shaoxing was forced by the clan and had to be sold, Lu Xun had to prepare for the family to move to Beijing. He had been looking at houses everywhere since February 1919, and finally chose the Roche House in Badaowan, Xinjiekou. The reason for choosing this place is that "the open space is very large, which is suitable for children's play". At that time, Zhou Zuoren and Zhou Jianren already had children. How thoughtful the eldest brother is! For this, he borrowed a lot of money from his friends. As soon as the Spring Festival in 1919 passed, Lu Xun was busy with the relocation. However, Zhou Zuoren returned to Shaoxing on March 30 of that year on leave from Peking University, and on April 20, Shaoxing took his family to Japan for a tour. While Lu Xun was working hard to repair his new residence in Badaowan, although Zhou Zuoren was also in Beijing, he soon "set off for Tokyo" to pick up his family. From beginning to end, inside and out, Lu Xun was busy alone. In this process, we don't seem to see the figure of the second brother Zhou Zuoren, nor can we see that Lu Xun has a complaint about this.

Living in the big family of Badaowan Bay, Lu Xun worked hard as always. The family finances were mainly responsible for Zhou Zuoren's wife, Yutai Xinzi, and Lu Xun paid a monthly salary, except for the money left to buy cigarettes, and the rest was all given to the second brother-in-law.

In May 1920, his nephew Zhou Pei was ill and hospitalized, and for nearly two months, Lu Xun went to the hospital almost every day, or "stayed in the hospital at night". In 1921, Zhou Zuoren fell ill, and Lu Xun personally rented a house for him to recuperate in the Biyun Temple in Xishan. During Zhou Zuoren's recuperation in Xishan, Lu Xun maintained close correspondence with him, constantly reporting to him about family affairs and the situation of his children: "My sister (Zhou Zuoren's daughter Zhou Jingzi) asked Yamamoto to check yesterday, and according to Yun, he is not sick, so he is thin, because he is 'growing', he has gone to school again today." "His Royal Highness Yoshiko has been discharged from the hospital this morning; Tubujun has been weaned and is not noisy, and this duke is also a hero. Calling his niece "His Den (Xia)" and his nephew "Jun" and "Gong" shows his love for children in ridicule. Although he did not have children at that time, his brother's children were his own children. Always holding Lu Xun's heart. To outsiders, this is such a harmonious family.

However, in July 1923, the situation took a sharp turn. First, on July 14, Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren's wife Yutai Nobuko had a serious conflict, and the cause of the conflict is still a mystery. Lu Xun only wrote one sentence in his diary on this day: "It was the beginning of the night to eat in his own room, and he had his own meal, which can be remembered." On July 18, Zhou Zuoren sent a letter of renunciation to Lu Xun.

Mr. Lu Xun:

I only found out yesterday,-- but there is no need to talk about the past. I'm not a Christian, but I can afford it, and I don't want to blame,-- everyone is a poor human being. My previous dreams of roses turned out to be illusory, and what I see now may be real life. I want to revise my mind and get back into a new life. Please don't come back to the back yard in the future, nothing else. May you be at ease and self-respecting.

July 18, be a man

From the title to the content, there is a suffocating indifference and determination, as if it is a great patience and tolerance, and it is like a heart-wrenching understanding. What are the reasons for the conflict? The parties refused to say, even Lu Xun's mother did not know, she once said to Xu Xiansu, who lived in Badaowan: "Mr. Big and Mr. Two suddenly made a fuss, and I don't know what happened, the day before was fine, the two brothers dragged the book in and out of the ground to discuss writing articles..." Soon after, Lu Xun moved out of Badaowan and taught No. 61 Brick Tower Hutong in Xicheng. Later, he went to Badaowan to get a book, and Zhou Zuoren even raised an incense burner to throw it over and hit him, which shows how deep the "hatred" between them is. Perhaps the root cause has to do with the family economy, and Nobuko Hadai talks about pomp and circumstance in life. If the child has a lot of brain fever, she will call the Japanese doctor to take a car to visit her home. Lu Xun has complained more than once: "The money I earn by rickshaw is not worth spending as much as riding a car." Lu Xun also said to Yu Dafu: "I always advised Qiming (Zhou Zuoren) to teach him that he should save a little with money, we have to think about the future, but he always spends one by one for the economy, especially his wife." In order to increase family income, Lu Xun substituted for classes in many colleges and universities in Beijing, and his consumption concept was very different from that of his sister-in-law Yu Daxinzi, and the contradiction became increasingly intensified. Lu Xun later used a pen name "Yan Zhi Ao", and he himself explained that "'Banquet' from 宀 (family), from Yu, from women; 'Ao' from out, from put. In other words, I was expelled by the Japanese woman in the family. It can be seen how deep the contradiction between Lu Xun and this Japanese sister-in-law is.

Lu Xun Zhou Zuoren Zhou Jianren

Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren's brothers lost peace, and in a small way, this was an unfortunate event in the lives of the two, which affected the direction of their lives; In the big picture, this is a great loss for Chinese culture in the 20th century.

If the two did not break up, how many brilliant creations should brothers have in culture?

Cao Juren said in "Lu Xun's Commentary": "Zhou Zuoren and Lu Xun parted ways in their later years, and between brothers, it is inevitable that there will be some ridicule between the lines, and that is of course the loss of Zhou Zuoren."

In November 1927, when the warlords of the Fengjie family banned the magazine "Yusi" in Beijing, the magazine authors took refuge one after another, and Lu Xun speculated in a letter to Zhang Tingqian that "Zhou Qiming covered the Japanese hospital", and said: "He is in the north, it is better to come to the south, but I dare not praise this matter, because I feel that the sky of Badao Bay is unpredictable, and I am not under Zhang Zuolin, if I talk about it, maybe the crime is extremely serious, but he has his own friends, and he should be able to help each other." It shows the feeling of concern and helplessness for his fellow authors.

In 1935, Zhou Zuoren published the "Fifty Self-Birthday Poems".

One of them

In the past life, the monks are now at home, and they do not change their robes for robes. The streets listen to ghosts all day long, and learn to draw snakes under the window all year round. When you grow old, you play with antiques for no reason, and you can grow flax at leisure. If others ask what they want, they will eat bitter tea in Hanzhai.

Second

Half Confucian, half Shijia, bald head and middle-aged fun window grass, outside the life of the snake in the cave. The apprentice lowered his head and bit the garlic, not hindering the table to pick up sesame seeds. Talking about foxes and talking about ghosts and ordinary things, only owe work to eat and talk about tea.

As soon as this poem came out, some people competed for it as a peace poem, and left-wing writers ridiculed and criticized him for the text. In this regard, Lu Xun said in a letter to Yang Jiyun: "Zhou Zuoren's poems actually hide some grievances about the current situation, but they are too hidden and have been disliked (understood) by ordinary readers..." If Zhou Zuoren heard this, would he say: "Those who know me, big brother!"

Lu Xun is like this to Zhou Zuoren, and his third brother Zhou Jianren, who is 7 years younger than himself, is also very caring. Before returning from Japan, he sent Zhou Jianren three English books, including "Plant Textbook", "Wildflower Season" and "Plant Biological Stories", encouraging Zhou Jianren to study botany and biology.

Zhou Jianren

In September 1916, Lu Xun was still living in the Shaoxing Guild Hall in Beijing, and when he learned that Zhou Jianren was coming to Beijing, he carefully framed the room to welcome the arrival of his third brother. Zhou Jianren later came to Beijing for more than a month, and did not leave for his hometown until October 12. During his stay in Beijing, Lu Xun accompanied him to visit Central Park, Wuying Hall and Wansheng Garden, and accompanied him to watch movies and plays many times.

In 1919, Zhou Jianren moved to Beijing with his extended family, and by 1921, in search of financial independence, he had gone to Shanghai alone to earn a living. In 1927, Lu Xun also came to Shanghai, and the brothers took care of each other. Every week, Lu Xun would invite Zhou Jianren's family to dinner at home and pay for his two children's tuition. Zhou Jianren initially worked in the Commercial Press, but after the "1.28" Anti-Japanese War in Shanghai, the Commercial Press was destroyed by the war, and Zhou Jianren was in danger of losing his job. Lu Xun wrote again and again, asking his old friend Xu Shouchang to help keep the job for the third brother.

In 1921, Zhou Jianren translated the Polish Manschi's "Jews", and Zhou Zuoren was about to write a "Post-translation Postscript" for him, but felt that the information was insufficient. Lu Xun translated for Zhou Zuoren the seventeenth section of the second volume of Kaylasuk's History of Slavic Literature, "The Latest Polish Prose", specifically to provide him with information. This incident also reflects the harmonious brotherhood between the three of them. Who would have thought that this would end up between them.

When Lu Xun was 19 years old, he wrote the verse "Some brothers are partial to teach each other", which may be a saying.
