The Japanese airbag vibration damping car scheme for the Myanmar-Vietnam meter-gauge railway is not as good as the plan for repairing the Lao-Cambodian railway

In December 2021, the entire line of the quasi-gauge China-Laos Railway was opened to traffic, with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour for freight and 160 kilometers per hour for passengers.

In June 2023, the 350 km/h quasi-gauge Yawan high-speed railway will be opened to traffic.

Since 2015, Thailand's quasi-gauge China-Thailand high-speed railway has been delayed for at least seven years, reportedly lured by Japan, and it is still far away.

China is currently Myanmar's largest trading and investment partner.

However, in 2020, Myanmar spent about 3.6 billion yuan (or 69 billion yen) on air-conditioned airbag vibration damping cars to Japan to upgrade the meter-gauge railway from Yangon to Mandalay to about 160 kilometers per hour (100 miles), which is said to be completed in 2025.

Due to Japan's lack of capacity to build high-speed viaducts and tunnels, the actual average speed of the best cars on the road should not exceed 60 kilometers for the tortuous narrow-gauge railways in Southeast Asia.

As for the infrastructure and track technology required to build railway viaduct tunnels, if China is second, Japan does not dare to claim first.

The China-Myanmar railway was also blocked by Japan.

In Southeast Asia, the meter-gauge railway with Japanese technology was limited in speed because it was not straightened. Even if upgraded to an airbag damping carriage, the train can reach a maximum speed of 62 kilometers per hour.

If the existing meter-gauge railway is dismantled, the elevated road is built and the tunnel is straightened according to China's quasi-gauge railway technology, the train can reach a speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

For Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, three countries that cannot be supported by the railway through China, if they insist on building the railway from Vientiane, Laos to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, it is also a containment of Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand!

Although the economic benefits and strategic significance of repairing the Lao-Cambodian railway are not optimal, it has made great gains in geopolitics and influence!

Of course, the reason why Vietnam is not in a hurry to repair the high-speed railway between the north and the south is that sea transportation can solve a big problem, so the demand for high-speed rail from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi in Vietnam is not too urgent; Vietnam doesn't have that much money to build a north-south high-speed railway; Vietnam is on guard against China.

However, Vietnam's biggest worry and unspeakable is the China-Laos-Cambodia railway! The opening of this railway is a feeling of national superiority for Vietnam, which is unspeakable! Just like a woman's aunt coming, she will be inexplicably angry!

However, the construction of the railway from Vientiane in Laos to Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville can help Cambodia develop at an early date. For Cambodians, with the China-Laos-Cambodia railway, they are closer to friendly China. For the Lao people, with the Lao-Cambodian railway, there is an additional outlet to the sea. Therefore, this is the expectation of the Cambodian and Lao people.

Mainly railway freight. Ho Chi Minh City has a population of 12 million. Yangon 7.36 million people.

The distance between China and Laos Railway from China Mohan to Vientiane is 442 kilometers.

The distance from Yangon to Bangkok is 945 km.

The distance from Bangkok to Vientiane is 647 km.

The distance from Mengding Qingshui River in Lincang, China to Yangon is 1170 kilometers.

For Myanmar, if all the railways with airbag damping cars are used in Japan, it will take about 19 hours to get from Yangon to the Lincang Qingshui River on the China-Myanmar border.

If the China-Myanmar railway uses Chinese technology, it takes about 10 hours to travel from Yangon to Lincang Qingshui River.

If the meter-gauge railway from Yangon to Bangkok to Vientiane uses Japanese technology, and then from Vientiane to the Sino-Laos border Mohan, it will take a total of 32 hours.

If the meter-gauge railway with existing Japanese technology is used, it takes 20 hours to travel from Bangkok to Vientiane to Mohan.

If the China-Laos-Thailand mixed passenger and cargo railway with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour using Chinese technology will take 10 hours from Bangkok to Vientiane to Mohan, China.

For Vietnam, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh are 180 kilometers and 1,280 kilometers away from the Sino-Vietnamese border, respectively. Hanoi is 480 km from Vientiane. Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane are 200 km and 750 km away from Phnom Penh respectively.

In this way, the distance from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh to Vientiane to the China-Laos border is 1,390 kilometers.

China is Vietnam's largest trading partner.

Vietnam's meter-gauge freight speed is 60 kilometers per hour. The freight speed of China-Laos Railway is 120 kilometers per hour. In this way, freight from Ho Chi Minh City to China takes about 21 hours to take the South China meter gauge and 11 hours to take the China-Laos Railway.

In other words, the plan to repair the Lao-Cambodian railway is the best.

Laos will develop only when it has a railway hub Vientiane. Vientiane can go to Kunming, Bangkok and Phnom Penh and Yangon. In this way, Vientiane will definitely develop faster than other places.
