Today, I share with you a controversial and thought-provoking movie "Doctor Death". In fact, the title of the film I prefer the original literal translation of "You don't know Jack" is not understood by the world Jack.
Released in the United States in 2010, the film was directed by Barry Levenson and starring Al Pacino. The story's archetype character, Jack Kowarkien, an American pathologist, is nicknamed Doctor Death. In his lifetime, he assisted more than 130 patients who could not be cured and could not seek death to euthanize, and actively advocated the right to die and a dignified death.
Before we talk about it, let's first understand the definition of euthanasia and the applicable conditions:
That is, to stop treatment for patients who cannot be treated, or to use drugs to cause patients to die painlessly;
The six conditions eligible for euthanasia must be:
1. It must be from the perspective of contemporary medical knowledge and technology, the patient suffers from incurable diseases and is close to the time of death;
2. The patient must be extremely painful and unbearable;
3. There must be sincere instructions or consent when the patient is conscious;
4. It must be carried out to relieve the patient's pre-death pain, not for the benefit of relatives, the country and society;
5. Must be performed by a physician;
(6) Appropriate methods recognized by social ethics must be adopted.
It is clearly affirmed that euthanasia is not permitted in my country until today;
The first scene in the film's prologue is the solemn hammer representing the law, thus setting the core tone of the conflict in the whole play: the elderly and white-haired Jack Kovorkian (Al Pacino), a retired idle doctor in Michigan. The shadow of his mother's illness and decades of career, he has personally experienced countless patients suffering from illness, surviving and dying, so that Jack firmly believes that the doctor's duty is to use his profession to do his best to treat patients; and for people who cannot be cured by modern medical methods and suffer from pain, the professional ethics of doctors will guide them, meet the requirements of patients, help patients, humane, dignified, painless relief.
After that, Jack, who was idle at home, began to try to help these groups (emphasizing incurable, afflicted patients who had lost hope of survival) to assist in euthanasia.
Let's look at the following juxtaposed entries: an old man who could have lived in peace; a patient who had no hope of survival; who did not receive financial benefits; who risked being punished by the law and spurned by the world; who did terrible things to help the sick die in an invisible environment.
Just imagine, what was old Jack's motivation? For money? The cost of curing a person and living a person is self-evident; or is it psychological darkness, deriving pleasure from the process of assisting the patient in death? What is the judgment of human morality, the punishment of laws and religious beliefs, the rejection of friends and relatives, which is not more serious than the so-called pleasure of assisting others in death?
With doubts, the film slowly advances from the first high paraplegic male patient who wants to try euthanasia, panic, resistance, and even abandon the implementation; to the determination of the female patient suffering from Alzheimer's disease, and gets the sincere thanks before liberation. So that the audience can basically understand the patient's willingness, imaging evidence, and the interrelationship between auxiliary implementation and hands-on throughout the implementation process.
As soon as Jack's approach was discovered, it immediately caused an uproar in all walks of life, and even unanimous condemnation. People rebuked him for disobeying God's will, depriving patients of their lives, calling for him to be thrown into prison, and sending him to death as a doctor.
Life is God Choice Only God can decide life and death. You know, in Western countries, religious beliefs are sometimes far superior to laws. Helping others to euthanize is nothing more than the devil's deeds, hated by the world, in the Dhamma, in traditional ethics and morality, and in religious beliefs.
But all this did not make Jack back down in the slightest, as he said, who cares about what others say, how the media reports, he only cares about the feelings of his patients. It was precisely because of all the difficulties that it inspired him to be more determined and more intense. Jack began to be cautious from the beginning, wandering on the edge of morality, human ethics and law, and began to openly fight for the right to die and challenge public opinion.
After scene of the patient's painful self-description, one scene of struggle with the law, religious beliefs, and human morality, we can't help but ask, not for material purposes, not to satisfy some kind of perverted spiritual needs, what is Jack's motive? In addition to the above, then there is only one conclusion, this behavior really comes from respect and compassion for life, and I prefer to believe that this is compassion in the true sense.
The film is occasionally interspersed with warm scenes from her sister Marg, her friend Neil, and Dick, a lawyer who can and is exploited. The good times did not last long, my sister died, and the lawyer left Jack because of political capital. Legislating for the patient's right to choose death, the lonely Jack fights against the water and decides to euthanize the patient himself...
The ending of the film is conceivable, and the ending has become the least important thing in the whole process. Eight and a half years in prison has long explained to an old man who is already an old man; and whether a person has the right to choose death has aroused deep thinking in society. I can't help but ask, is the meaning of life just to survive so single?
In the domestic TV series "Heavenly Dao", the protagonist Ding Yuanying's father was in a coma and seriously ill. The attending physician told the family that the cost of treatment is 600,000 yuan, and even if the operation is successful, the patient's hope of recovery is slim, and the chance of becoming a vegetative person is very high.

Father Ding: When he first woke up from a coma, he struggled to pull out the oxygen tube. However, at this time, the body can no longer be autonomous, and the pain is shedding tears (implication: living motionless like a log is too painful, the cost of 600,000 is a heavy burden for children, and it is too dragging people to serve, not too selfish, and a hundred deaths);
Ding Yuanying: Shake your father's hand, you are a hard bone all your life, I understand (hidden words: the son understands what you think, you are not afraid of death, you are afraid of life is better than death, you are afraid of dragging the family); doctor, then how can I make my father die (hidden words: when the son can reduce the father's pain is filial piety, I am willing to risk the world's great disobedience);
Attending doctor: as long as the patient still has life, as long as the family's account number still has money, we can not give up treatment (hidden words: doctor's duties, legal scope, frank and honest, no blame);
Ding family's eldest brother: the father is a vegetative person, and he cannot pull out the pipe (implicitly: lying is his own father, keeping his life is filial piety, it is better to die than to live); the cost of three children is equally shared (hidden word: father is everyone's, no matter whether the brothers and sisters are poor or rich, the average sharing is not fair, and the money is less than filial piety); the children pull the father's pipe, let the neighbors see how to see, how to see relatives and friends (hidden words: don't want the father's life, be gossiped by others, poke the backbone, and go out later)
In fact, for the same thing, everyone has a reason for deriving from the self, but the subject of this matter is the patient himself, according to the original self, should the will of the patient himself be superior? Living is painful for the patient himself, so why not let him make a choice? At a time when the patient's consciousness can no longer dominate his own behavior, Ding Yuanying's approach is transparent and in line with the patient's own will. However, in this secular world, pipe pulling and euthanasia are inferior to others; the ideas of the Ding family's eldest brother are also correct, the national conditions and culture itself determine, the chinese people's ideas are like this, and the author's thoughts are the same. The ethical and moral education and legal scope of our country for thousands of years will not allow this rebellious thing to be carried out.
In terms of the event itself, should terminally ill patients who have been in pain for a long time have the right to control the survival of their own lives?
If my life existence is painful, the only thing I can think of at that moment is relief that can be comfortable. Would I then consider that the law allowed me to die? Would I think that if I die like this, others will accuse my descendants of being unfilial?
If my will could not control my body, my body could not move, my mouth could not speak, even my consciousness was blurred, I could not make a clear choice, and modern medicine was powerless, I can be sure that the first thing I thought of would be who could alleviate my pain, and it would never be the law that allowed me to die, and if I was allowed to die, would my children be condemned?
Back to the film itself, Old Jack's theory deserve better that they have the right to be comfortable, and how many tearful scenes behind them make people silent: two female patients who receive euthanasia at the same time are filmed before they die, "When you live, but there is no quality of life, there is no point"; veterans of advanced lung cancer, and his wife's farewell moment "Thank you for giving me a wonderful life"; and a sentence from the mother of the frostbite guy "I hope Tom can be free", Too much too much.
It is said that the laborer's car and horse have not left the saddle, and the party who is on the verge of death knows that it is difficult to die, and who in this world does not have nostalgia for life? And what cruel end is it to be tortured to death by illness? The dignity of life, the right to die, when will patients really be allowed to choose independently?
The colors of the world are not black and white, but gray with a middle ground. Therefore, in such a gray, there are all kinds of controversies, attempts and progress. Feelings, reason, and law, the more sound they become, will there be fewer and fewer human tragedies.
The last scene of the film is reviewed: Old Jack wears a medieval dress, rides a bicycle, and wears a white wig symbolizing the supreme law, galloping on the road: constantly fighting in law, religion, traditional ethics and morality.
