In the 1920s, when Japanese imperialism invaded Taiwan, Lin Haiyin came to Beijing with her parents and spent her childhood in the hutongs south of the city. Ms. Lin Haiyin. She is known as "the grandmother of Taiwanese literature". The story of Xiao Yingzi in "Seongnam Old Things" is the autobiography of Ms. Lin Haiyin.
The novel consists of five short stories, each of which quietly tells a long story, full of femininity and elegance.
The first story of the opening chapter, "The Legend of Hui'anGuan", tells the story of Xiao Yingzi and the crazy Xiuzhen who lives in the Hui'an Pavilion. XiuZhen said that she was crazy, but she was actually a young woman. The adults did not let Xiao Yingzi go to Find Xiuzhen, but Xiao Yingzi has always been very curious. Once, Xiuzhen took Hideko's hand and asked her, "See us Little Guizi no", she found that Xiuzhen was very gentle, her hands were very warm, and Xiuzhen showed her the clothes she made for Xiao Guizi, which did not scare people at all.
Eiko knows from the adult conversation that Hideyoshi once fell in love with a male student, and the two made a vow of friendship, and even before they separated, Soo-jeong was pregnant with his child. But the student never returned, and Xiuzhen's newborn daughter was abandoned in a desolate and distant place. Xiuzhen is insane about this, thinking about her old lover day and night, and her poor daughter "Little Guizi".
Next to the well nest, there is still Ying Zi's good friend Yu'er, which is the place where old Beijing sold water around the well. Yu'er is a very handsome girl, as old as Hideko, but her father forced her to learn drama and often beat her. Yu'er secretly told Ying Zi that she was not born to her parents, and she couldn't stand their scolding and wanted to go to her own father and mother.
On a rainy night, Ying Zi launched a fever, and the little Guizi in Xiuzhen's mouth and the girl in front of her merged into a person in Ying Zi's eyes. Ying Zi also found a birthmark on the back of Yu'er's neck, and Xiu Zhen said that Xiao Guizi had such a birthmark. So Hideko took her mother's gold bracelet and wrapped it around You'er and Xiuzhen without any hesitation, so that their mother and daughter could be reunited. XiuZhen leads You'er into the heavy rain and catches a train to find her sweetheart, who is also Your'er's father.
Hideko fainted in the rain because of her illness and woke up ten days later, when the two friends she had helped, Xiuzhen and Yu'er, had died under the rolling wheels of the train.
Hideyoshi's story ends, and then Hideko's second story begins.
Hideko and her family moved to New Curtain Alley and attended elementary school. Her favorite text is "Let's See the Sea Go": "Blue sea / With white sails / Golden sun / Rising from the sea / Shining on the surface of the sea to the bow of the ship ..." She also likes to play football with the boys in the alley. Once, the ball was thrown into a clearing overgrown with grass, and Xiao Yingzi had the courage to go in, but found that there was a lot of gold and silver hidden inside. After returning home, Xiao Yingzi kept thinking about this pile of things and looked for an opportunity to go again. This time, she met a man on this grass. One after another, the man told her that he had a younger brother who was studying and was a very good student, and he did not come out of the house himself, but he wanted to provide for his brother to study in the West. The man asks Hideko if she is a good person or a bad person? Unfortunately, Xiao Yingzi couldn't tell the difference, just like she couldn't tell the difference between the sea and the sky. Xiao Yingzi taught the man "We See the Sea", and the man said that he would never forget this little sister who listened to his own heart.
On the day of the graduation ceremony for the senior students, the man also came, and Hideko immediately realized that the graduate who took the first exam was the younger brother that the man had said. The man's brother is going to study abroad, and maybe the man is leaving. Eiko is sad at the grass, she picks up a small copper Buddha, but is going to be asked by a plainclothes policeman, and soon after the man is arrested. Mom says that men are bad people, but Hideko firmly remembers the voice of men and their desire to see the sea together.
The name of the third story is "Aunt Lan".
Uncle Dexian is a fellow villager of Ying zi's family, studying at Peking University and living in Ying Zi's house, but Xiao Ying Zi and his younger siblings do not like him much. At this time, there was an Aunt Lan in the family, she was talkative and fashionable, and she impressed Xiao Yingzi with her turbulent and displaced life, and the child who did not understand the world invited Aunt Lan to live in her own home.
One day, Hideko bumped into her father and Aunt Lan that the atmosphere was not right, and then saw her pregnant mother working in front of the stove, which was very sad. Her careful thoughts turned, and she began to fake each other's praise in front of Aunt Lan and Dexian, trying her best to create opportunities for them, pass notes, watch movies... Just so that Aunt Lan couldn't stay with her father.
Finally, Aunt Lan and Uncle Dexian, who were successfully matched, were leaving together. After learning about Hideko's masterpiece, her mother seemed to inadvertently ask her, "What did you say you were going to buy that day?" Hideko said without hesitation: "A pair of rolling iron rings, a pair of leather shoes, and now I want to add "Children's World" that I have ordered for a whole year." This is the reward she deserves when she pleases her mother.
The fourth story is "Donkey Rolling". Let's take a look at the maid Song Ma, who grew up with Ying Zi. Ying Zi and her younger siblings like to listen to Mama Song talk about her son and daughter: the little plug and the handmaiden. The family is poor, and the little plug can't afford to go to school to let people go to the field to watch cattle, and the servants are raised by others from an early age. Song Ma's husband grew a mouthful of yellow teeth, and every time he pulled a donkey into the city, he asked For Work, and Mama Song did not go home for several years, always thinking about her two children.
But life is full of accidents. The next time Huang Banya came to find Aunt Song, he brought a series of bad news. Mother Song's little plug had been dead for a year or two, and the girl had been sold to someone else by Huang Banya and could no longer be found. Ying Zi secretly went with Mother Song to find the handmaiden, but the sky is big, where is the shadow of the child? Tired of looking, Song Mama bought Ying Zi a snack from Beijing to roll a donkey, and Xiao Ying Zi compared it to the dung ball of the donkey with Yellow Plate Tooth, but she could not laugh at the sad Song Ma. Finally, Mama Song wanted to go home to raise another child and leave this home full of her hard work.
In the blink of an eye, Xiao Yingzi is about to graduate, and "Old Things in Seongnam" has also written a fifth story. Eiko became a representative of the graduates and stood on the podium, but her father fell ill. She still remembers that she did not want to get up on a rainy day, and her strict father beat her badly, but then he braved the rain to come to her school and gave her a flower jacket. She remembered the various flowers in the yard that her father loved, there were pomegranates, chrysanthemums, jasmine, oleanders... On the podium, Hideko listened to her classmates singing songs for their group of graduates, and suddenly found that she gradually walked out of her childhood in parting with relatives and friends. This time, when she rushed home, she found that her father's pomegranate flowers had fallen, and his father had died in the hospital. As the eldest sister in the family, Hideko understands that her father's flowers have fallen, and she is no longer a child.
In fact, everyone has a piece of homeland in their hearts, or the south of the city, or the north of the city, carrying the memories of our childhood. When we read Yingzi, we read about ourselves.
