It inhabits the tropical jungles of southern Mexico as well as Central America, with pristine moist mountain cloud forests, ravines and cliffs of dense vegetation, forest edges, pastures, and altitudes between 900 - 3200 meters. In Costa Rica, migration to lower altitudes has been recorded during the non-breeding season.
