Red-headed bitebird in the Field Manual of Chinese Birds No. 165 (scientific name: harpactes erythrocephalus): large, about 33 cm long, weighing 75-110 g.

The head and neck are dark crimson, and the back and shoulders are rusty brown. The wings are black , with the upper and inner flight feathers densely covered with white worm beetle markings , the primary flight feathers are black with white margins on the outside ; the waist and tail coverts are more rusty.
The central tail feathers are dark chestnut with black feathers and end spots. The male is characterized by a red head with a missing collar on the back and a narrow half-moon-shaped white ring on the red chest;
The female is distinguished from other females by a red belly and a half-moon-shaped white ring on the thorax, while the female is distinguished from all males by a yellowish brown head. The iris is brown; the skin around the eyes is blue; the mouth is nearly blue; the feet are pink.
It inhabits tropical and subtropical forests up to 2400 m above sea level. It is found in the Himalayas to southern China, Southeast Asia and Sumatra.
