The yellow river source located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau began to implement a total ban on fishing, thereby strengthening the protection of the yellow river source ecosystem and fish diversity.
The Yellow River, which originates in Qinghai, is the second largest river in China. The reporter learned from the launching ceremony of the ban on fishing in the Qinghai section of the Yellow River Basin on the 15th that the source of the Yellow River launched a five-year total ban on fishing, prohibiting the fishing of all natural fish. The prohibited waters include Zhaling Lake, Eling Lake, the main stream of the Yellow River, and nine major tributaries such as the Datong River, Huangshui River, Longwu River and Gequ River, which are located at the source of the Yellow River.

The Yellow River system Qinghai is rich in fish resources and unique species. According to the latest survey released by the Qinghai Fishery Environment Monitoring Center, there are currently nearly 20 species of native fish distributed in Qinghai in the Yellow River system, including a variety of national key protected wild animals such as polar flat-throated toothfish, thick-lipped naked heavy-lipped fish, loach on the loach plateau and bony-lip Yellow River fish.
Li Kemao, senior engineer of the Fishery Environment Monitoring Center of Qinghai Province, introduced that the fish source of the Yellow River are mainly split-bellied fish and loach fish. These fish have lived in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for a long time, and their species characteristics such as hardiness and low oxygen tolerance are outstanding, which is an important basis for maintaining the balance of the ecosystem in the source area of the Yellow River, and also an important manifestation of ecological environment changes, and the strategic significance of fish germplasm resources is prominent.

"Plateau fish, including those from the source of the Yellow River, have a slow growth rate and low reproductive capacity, making it difficult to recover once damaged." Li Kemao said that the total ban on fishing in Qinghai in the Yellow River Basin can make valuable native fish resources recuperate and promote the increase of fish germplasm resources and the improvement of biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems in the source area of the Yellow River.
Qinghai Province clearly stipulates that gillnets, purse seine nets, trawls, fishing tackle and other fishing operations are prohibited in Qinghai in the Yellow River Basin. Where it is necessary to harvest natural fish resources for special reasons such as resource investigation and scientific research in waters where fishing is prohibited or during the period of prohibition of fishing, the competent fishery department of the people's government at the provincial level shall approve it. Institutions and individuals who fish in violation of the law will be investigated for legal responsibility in accordance with law.

In view of the large number of male fish in the pond swamp of the Longyangxia Reservoir in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, the total ban on fishing has set up a three-month concession period for the Longyangxia Reservoir. The concession period is from 20 August to 20 November each year, and the fishing is limited to pond and swamp male fish that are breeding on large water surfaces.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Fishery and Fishery Administration Bureau of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Department of Qinghai Province, the pond swamp male fish is an exotic species, growing rapidly, with strong reproductive capacity, and too many groups will seize the ecological niche, harvest the bottom resources, swallow fish eggs, threaten the local indigenous native fish species, "open a concession fishing period, and focus on maintaining the ecological balance of local aquatic species."
"The total ban on fishing in the Qinghai section of the Yellow River Basin is an important measure to strengthen the management of the headwaters of the Yellow River and protect aquatic biodiversity." Yang Lin, deputy director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Qinghai Province, introduced that Qinghai will continue to improve the law enforcement and monitoring system for aquatic organisms in the Yellow River Basin, carry out the breeding and stocking of native fish, and further improve the governance level and governance capacity of the source waters of the Yellow River.
