According to Italian media Inter Live, Manchester United and Chelsea are preparing to bring in Inter Milan defender Dumfries in the winter transfer window.
Dumfries graduated from Sparta Rotterdam and in August 2021, the 25-year-old moved from PSV Eindhoven to Inter Milan. He quickly established himself in the Inter first team and was a key figure in Nerazzurri's Coppa Italia title last season. This season, Dumfries has made 14 appearances for Inter Milan in all competitions, contributing two goals and two assists.
United had a great game at Old Trafford on Wednesday as they beat Tottenham Hotspur and Dalot played consistently in this match. But in the long run, the Red Devils lack a suitable replacement.
Aaron Bissaka is currently United's second-choice right-back, but he is not in the Red Devils' manager's plans.
The former Crystal Palace defender is one of the most solid defenders in the Premier League. But in modern matches, the full-back is called upon to play as another winger, and Aaron Bissaka lacks experience in this area.
Now United have identified Dumfries as the player who can tackle their right-back needs. And Dalot's performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona keeping a close eye on the Portugal international.
While United are confident of keeping Dalot for the long term, bringing in Dumfries is good for both sides. Meanwhile, with James set to miss two months with a knee injury, Porter used a number of combinations to make up for the England international's absence.
But apart from veteran Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta, the Blues currently lack other options at right-back. This will force Chelsea to look for alternatives in the winter transfer window.
Now the 25-year-old's name is on their signings. But Inter Milan have asked for a transfer fee of more than 50 million euros before they are willing to sell him in the January transfer window.
After Chelsea failed to agree a transfer with Inter Milan last summer, Loft-Cheek already has his place at right-back and now the Chelsea hierarchy needs some replacement for James to keep the momentum going.
