The Taiwan authorities sought to participate, but the ICPO Secretary-General categorically refused: the People's Republic of China was the only representative

The 90th INTERPOL Congress will be held in New Delhi, India, bringing together police chiefs and officials from 195 countries and regions to discuss terrorism, arms smuggling, money laundering and cybercrime.

As an intergovernmental cooperation organization second only to the United Nations, Interpol has also attracted the attention of public opinion at this conference, and the Taiwan authorities, who have always been accustomed to seeking a sense of presence in the international community by rubbing hot spots, will naturally not miss the opportunity to "show their faces." According to global network reports, the Taiwan authorities have sent a letter to Interpol requesting to attend the meeting as an observer.

At a press conference before the conference, Interpol Secretary-General Stoke responded positively to this question, saying that as early as 1984, the Interpol General Assembly had recognized the People's Republic of China as the sole representative of China and Taiwan as a part of China. Since China is a member of Interpol, Taiwan cannot be granted the status of an observer.

The Taiwan authorities' attempt to infiltrate Interpol has been around for a long time, with the intention of striving for the so-called "international space" and "international exposure" and creating chaos among influential international organizations, and then trying to push the separatist activities of "Taiwan independence" to the international community and boldly create momentum for the Taiwan independence elements who are in a flies.

This is not the first time that the Taiwan authorities have made such a shameless move, and the Interpol office has repeatedly received emails from the Taiwan authorities asking to attend the conference as an observer. Although INTERPOL is not a subordinate agency of the United Nations, it has always adhered to UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and the one-China principle, and naturally will not accept such an absurd request. In the e-mail reply given by the organization, out of basic etiquette, it did not directly refuse the request of the Taiwan authorities, but took the trouble to emphasize that the People's Republic of China is the only representative of China at Interpol. In other words, before the Taiwan authorities sent many letters, they knew the Interpol reply, and even so, the Taiwan authorities still applied shyly, forcing Stoker to respond to the matter head-on, and his shameless face was also eye-opening.

If we study the various statutes of Interpol, there is actually no relevant provision for "observers", but the Taiwan authorities are trying to bypass the one-China principle in the name of this, and then strive for the so-called "international space" for themselves. On the premise of adhering to the "consensus of '92 and opposing Taiwan independence," the mainland is willing to make appropriate arrangements for Taiwan's participation in the activities of international organizations after cross-strait consultations and in abiding by the regulations of the corresponding international organizations.

During the eight years that Ma Ying-jeou was in charge of Taiwan, under the influence of the "consensus of '92," the two sides of the strait communicated smoothly and were friendly with each other, and Taiwan also had corresponding space and exposure in the international community. Since Tsai Ing-wen came to power, the mainland has not raised any objection to the status quo; on the contrary, the Taiwan authorities have refused to recognize the "consensus of '92" and regarded Taiwan's activities in the international community as their own capital for "seeking independence." They have repeatedly suffered from difficulties but have never repented, which has not only hurt the feelings of the people on both sides of the strait, but has also gradually made Taiwan a laughing stock of the international community.

In fact, Taiwan's participation in international organizations has always been an important aspect of the Taiwan issue that cannot be ignored, and it is also a major focus of cross-strait games and even struggles. Taking the Kuomintang as an example, Ma Ying-jeou once shouted the slogan "Taiwan wants security, prosperity, and dignity" and advocated integrating Taiwan into the international community to promote the development of cross-strait relations. On the basis of fully taking into account the feelings of Taiwan compatriots, the mainland gave sincere response and assistance in the early years, and this is also a manifestation of the goodwill of the two sides of the strait.

However, after the DPP authorities took control of Taiwan, the situation was completely different. Taiwan's participation in the activities of international organizations is no longer an expression of public opinion and goodwill, but a trick to create separatism and confrontation and deliberately "seek independence." In this regard, we must screen it out and, while winning the hearts and minds of the Taiwan compatriots on the island, spare no effort to crack down on the rampant and arrogant ambitions of the "Taiwan independence" elements.
