The Torlonia Collection is one of the most important collections of ancient sculpture in the world, and from October 2020 to February 2022, it held an exhibition at the Palazzo Cafarelli (1584) in the Capitoglio Hill in Rome, presenting 96 of the 620 works in the collection.
The exhibition design was inspired by the famous Torlonia Museum, published in 1884/1885 (founded by Prince Alessandro Torlonia in 1875). The work is presented on a black background, so the floor and base of the exhibition are made of handmade black bricks of dark gray clay. Separate colored walls, used to define the different parts of the exhibition, are divided into five chapters to illustrate the chronological evolution of the collection, while placing the sculptures in the context of their historical periods.
