Are bats really blind? I know that bats communicate with each other with ultrasound, but there is no such thing as bat blindness.

Of the more than 1,100 bats living in the world, none are blind, and in fact many more are clearly visible in their eyes.

Bats don't need eyes because they use echolocation or "sound waves" to move around, and the idea is complete nonsense.

Fruit bats (aka fox bats) don't use echo localization at all, they use their big eyes to track paths and look for food — fruit, of course.

Echolocation is of little use when looking for a food such as fruit. Conversely, this bat also has a keen sense of smell that can be used for fruit localization.

Vampire bats are the only bats that feed on mammalian blood. Vampire bats are not blind, they can easily spot cattle up to 120 meters away in complete darkness at night.

All bats in the UK are part of a bat family and eat mainly insects. It is this bat that uses sound waves to catch prey.

But even this bat uses its (much smaller) eyes to avoid obstacles, look for landmarks and determine flight altitudes. Bats have excellent night vision. Since they are nocturnal, everything they see is monochromatic. But fruit bats are exceptional, they are diurnal and they can distinguish between different colors.

Several species of "fishing bats" live in Central and South America. One of the bats uses its keen eyesight and long legs to fish small fish out of the water. Almost everyone can recognize bats of this species. With a wingspan of 66 cm, it inhabits caves and rock walls and emits an unpleasant odor.

Few people make bats a delicacy, but on special occasions like weddings, the Chamorro people of Guam stew large fruit bats (also known as "fox bats") with coconut milk. #所见所得, very scientific ##knowledge##I do popular science ##蝙蝠 in headlines #
