Recently, more than 300 varieties and tens of thousands of water lilies from all over the world have appeared in different corners of Chenshan Botanical Garden. As the highlight of previous water lily exhibitions, the display of famous varieties is always eye-catching, so what new varieties are worth seeing in this "Water Lily World"?

Lyra is a tropical variety, independently cultivated by Chenshan in 2016, with blue-purple petals, dark yellow petals and folded petals, and was internationally registered at the IWGS (International Water Lily Water Feature Horticulture Association, the same below) in November 2018 and won the gold medal of the 10th China Flower Expo.

The Aegean Sea is also a tropical variety, the flowers are white with blue spots or stripes, astral radial, small and medium-sized plants, independently cultivated by Chenshan in 2018, successfully registered in the IWGS in 2020, and won the bronze medal of the 10th China Flower Expo.

Midsummer is a hardy water lily variety, the flowers are pink with purple spots or stripes, the petals are slender, astral radial, medium and large plant type, Chenshan was independently cultivated in 2018, successfully registered in the IWGS in 2020, and won the silver medal of the 10th China Flower Expo.

"Red face" water lily is a new cross-subgenus hybrid of hardy water lily as the mother and tropical water lily as the father, the flowers are dark red with purple spots or stripes, star radial, medium plant type, flower diameter of about 12-15 cm, and can naturally overwinter in Shanghai area, with the advantages of tropical water lilies and hardy water lilies. Chenshan Botanical Garden was cultivated in 2020 and exhibited in Shanghai for the first time.

There's "popsicles" and there's "food."
In addition, this year's colorful container of "popsicle ice", which is composed of grapefruit orange, butter yellow and ice ice green, is also interesting. Nearly 100 kinds of various kinds of water lilies are matched with a clear and cool fish tank, forming a boutique water lily area, which is eye-catching.

There are "popsicles" and other "delicacies" to accompany it. For example, both the "Jinping Sugar" water lily and the "Cherry Boom" water lily are from mainland breeder Li Zijun, and the "Jinping Sugar" water lily has narrow petals in lavender color, which won the runner-up of the subgenera group of the International Water Lily and Water landscape garden association (IWGS) in 2019. The "Cherry Boom" water lily has a dark red flower color and a relatively large flower diameter, and won the third place in the subgenera group of IWGS in 2019.

For another example, the "McDonald's" water lily has beautiful blue-purple petals, the base of the petals is lighter in color, and the stamens are orange, which is the first variety to be exhibited at the Tatsuyama Botanical Garden. In addition, at the same time, varieties such as "peach cream" and "sugar rain" were also displayed in the "Flower Shadow Fish Leap" area.

The garden said that at present, the water lilies are delicate in their openings, and flocks of dragonflies are commonly flying around the lake. On the petals and leaves of water lilies, the slender figures of various dragonflies, turning their large eyes, can sometimes see them preying on insects, courtship, spawning in the water and other scenes, adding a little agility to the "water lily world".
