#Documentary Photography is Expressing and Documenting What # Today is International Orangutan Day!

The greatest threat to the survival of orangutans is the deforestation and loss of rainforests that serve as their habitat. Once the rainforest is cut down, the ecosystem cannot be restored. Orangutans have a very low reproductive rate, with adult females having one baby every 7-8 years. There are 3 orangutan species in the world: Bornean orangutan, Sumatran orangutan and Tapanuli orangutan, all three of which are critically endangered! Below is a Bornean orangutan I photographed in the rainforest of Sabah.
