The MSc in Analytics at Nanyang Technological University, offers a wide range of skills and knowledge for applying cutting-edge data science and technology to business challenges in the modern economy, under the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, an interprofessional postgraduate programme suitable for both those who want to apply business analytics to their respective fields and for recent graduates who want to work in the data science industry.

This project is more similar to the ace MSiA of Northwestern University in the United States, with less enrollment, simple course selection, good employment, and lower tuition fees than the United States, and a better environment.

First, small but fine class size

The project was founded in 2015, except for the first two years of enrollment of about 20 people, since then it has been maintained at about 40 people, up to a maximum of 45 people. Around 40 people also include part-time students, so the competition is still relatively fierce. In 21 years, 45 students were enrolled, 27 boys and 18 girls.

Excluding part-time, singapore and other students, Chinese students can account for about 20. Lu Ben's students are basically 985/211 or Sino-foreign joint institutions, such as C9, Hong Kong, China and Shenzhen. For students with a high mathematical background, the vast majority of admitted students are engineering, mathematics or statistics majors. If the undergraduate college is very good, the mathematical background is very strong, then the GPA is slightly lower and there is also a chance to admit, and there are several admission cases with a GPA below 3.5 in the fall of 22.

Second, Tech, practical courses

The duration of the program is one year, from July to July of the following year, divided into three semesters. The course consists of 11 core courses, 8 electives and 1 analytical practice course (internship). The course places great emphasis on the analytical application of real-world data. The specific courses are as follows:

Compulsory Courses

  • MH6201 - Operations Research I
  • MH6202 - Operations Research II
  • MH6211 - Analytics Software I
  • MH6212 - Analytics Software II
  • MH6221 - Analytics Workshop I
  • MH6222 - Analytics Workshop II
  • MH6231 - Probability and Statistics
  • MH6241 - Time Series Analysis
  • MH6142 - Database Systems
  • MH6151 - Data Mining
  • MH6191 - Practicum

Elective Courses

  • MH6301 - Information Retrieval and Analysis
  • MH6311 - Stochastic Processes for Data Science
  • MH6321 - Statistical Modelling and Data Analysis
  • MH6322 - Uncertainty and Dependence
  • MH6331 - Financial and Risk Analytics I
  • MH6332 - Financial and Risk Analytics II
  • MH6341 - Data Management and Business Intelligence
  • MH6351 - Web Analytics

Operations research mainly learns commonly used optimization methods, including linear programming, nonlinear optimization, discrete optimization, dynamic programming, Monte Carlo simulation, queuing theory, storage theory, etc. The Analytics Software course teaches students data analysis, data mining, predictive modeling, data visualization, decision optimization, and report generation in the latest software packages, including Python, Cplex, R, Matlab, SAS, Weka, libsvm, IBM Business Analytics, and more. Analytics Workshop provides students with the opportunity to learn cutting-edge technologies in data analytics through workshops where students will form small groups to delve into a topic and present the findings to the class. Time Series Analysis introduces time series models and related data analysis and inference methods, including AR, MA, ARMA, ARIMA, and more. Data mining courses include data preprocessing, statistical techniques, supervised and unsupervised learning techniques such as decision trees, nearest neighbor classification, cluster analysis, correlation analysis, support vector machines, and more.

If the credits have been completed in the last semester, you can do a full-time internship in full, usually from March to June. According to the content of the internship, a project needs to be completed, similar to the graduation project, and the presentation and defense are carried out before graduation. The academy will help everyone send resumes to the industry, if they are accepted, written tests and interviews need to work hard, and if there is no echo, they also need to find internships. Internship titles for colleges to send resumes are better, such as APL, BreadTalk, Charles & Keith, DHL, Experian, Grab, UPS, Shopee, Lazada, DBS, etc.

3. Simple application requirements

Undergraduate background requirements: tend to quantitative undergraduate professional background, such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, CS, etc., there is no specific prerequisite course requirements.

Application Requirements:

Passport

  • One recent passport-sized colour photograph
  • Valid TOEFL/IELTS/GRE/GMAT Scores, the minimum TOEFL requirements for this project are 92, IELTS 6.5, GMAT650 or GRE315
  • Degree Certification and Official Transcripts
  • Resume
  • A short essay in the online application

No need for a letter of recommendation, so I am afraid of finding a recommender's classmates, save trouble! The school reserves the right to request an interview, and in recent years most students have been admitted facelessly.

Deadline:

The program is only enrolled in July, the application time is from 11.1 to 1.31, and the result time lasts until June, usually about 2 months, but some students will have to wait a long time.

Fourth, cheap tuition fees

The tuition fee for the 2022-23 academic year of the project is S$52,500, less than 300,000 yuan, compared with the tuition fee of 400,000 to 500,000 yuan or even higher in the United States, and the remaining money is enough for daily food, clothing, housing and transportation.

Fees are paid in three installments, with a deposit of S$5,000 when an offer is accepted, S$21,250 at the beginning of the first semester and S$26,250 at the beginning of the second semester.

5. Zhiyou case

W Classmate, University of International Business and Economics, Major in Financial Engineering, GPA 3.6+, IELTS 7, GRE320+, Three-stage Internship.

Student C, Peking University, Mathematics Major, GPA 3.4+, TOEFL100+, GRE325+, Three-stage Internship.
