In June 1945, a team of American troops discovered a hidden cave of the Japanese army on okinawa. When several American troops tried to approach the mouth of the cave, they were fiercely shot by the Japanese troops inside the cave!

So the U.S. military began to use flamethrowers to spray non-stop at the opening. Hot flames and smoke instantly filled the cave, when eight people suddenly rushed out of the cave entrance. The Americans instinctively raised their guns and fired, but soon someone shouted, "Don't shoot, they're not Japanese!" ”

Only then did the American soldiers see clearly the group they were shooting: it turned out to be just a male teacher and a female student dressed up. Two of the eight female students in the rush have been shot dead by the U.S. military, and the other six have survived and been injured to varying degrees.

After the flames inside the cave were extinguished, the American soldiers entered the cave to search and found that there were more than 80 corpses lying in the cave, but most of them were female students. Some of them had been scorched, and some of them were suffocated.

Afterwards, the US military investigated, and it turned out that the female students who were staying in the cave at that time were the so-called "Hime Yuri" nurses. Before the Battle of Okinawa began, the Japanese army began to collect "cannon fodder" throughout the island.

They forcibly requisitioned some "nurses" from Okinawa Prefectural No. 1 Girls' High School, which was nicknamed "Otohime," while another Okinawa Normal School also requisitioned a group of female students, the school alias "White Lily." Therefore, they called this temporarily recruited "nurse team" of female students "Ji Lily".

Moreover, before the battle began, the Japanese army also instilled in these childish female students the idea of "preferring to die rather than being taken prisoner". According to one surviving female student, "At that time, the school and the military were propaganda that if they were caught by the Americans, boys would be gouged out of their eyes and girls would be humiliated in every way!" ”

Therefore, when the war situation was unfavorable, some female students obeyed the orders of the Japanese army and blindly chose to jump off the cliff. However, on June 18, 1945, a Japanese commander was "merciful": the "Himeyuri" nurse team was disbanded on the spot, and all the female students could escape on their own.

But his order killed more schoolgirls: the weak schoolgirls ran outside, not knowing how to dodge the gunfire. Only two days after the "dissolution", more than 100 female students who "ran blindly" were killed and violently killed in the wild.

In addition to those female students who ran out, there were many female students who "firmly believed" in the propaganda of the Japanese army and feared that they would "die" even worse if they were caught by the US military! So they stayed in the cave with the Japanese soldiers, only to be burned alive by the American flamethrowers.

According to statistics, the mortality rate of the "Hime Lily" women's nurse team was as high as 94%, and only 14 people survived after the war. The male students who were forcibly recruited by the Japanese army were not much better, when the Japanese army organized all the boys in the 12 high schools in Okinawa into the "Iron-Blooded Imperial Team", and about half of the male students died tragically.

The Japanese army cruelly "pulled cannon fodder" on okinawa, causing Okinawa to almost lose a generation of intellectual youth. In addition, many civilians were forced by the Japanese army to "commit suicide", and if anyone refused to obey, the Japanese soldiers would kill them themselves.

Before the Battle of Okinawa, there were 470,000 inhabitants on the island, but 150,000 people died in the battle. To this day, Okinawa residents do not have any "good feelings" for the Japanese government: when they think of their "cannon fodder" experience in the war, they must have 10,000 "greetings" churning in their hearts.
