According to the latest forecast report from CIC News Canada, at least 500,000 people will enter Canada by the summer of 2022, including new permanent residents, international students and temporary foreign workers.
(1) Permanent residents: about 130,000
The Canadian government set a Canadian immigration quota target for the next three years in the Canada Immigration Target Plan 2022-2024. Among the quota targets, the Canadian government hopes to welcome about 432,000 new permanent residents by 2022. However, CIC News believes that the total number of people who actually land this year may far exceed the target of 432,000.
In the first quarter of 2022, Canada added more than 110,000 new permanent residents. The number for the first quarter of 2022 increased by more than 60% compared to the 74,000 new permanent residents who landed in the first quarter of 2021. The winter of each year is generally the time when new immigrants from Canada make the least number of arrivals, and people are more inclined to come to Canada during the warmer season. As a result, CIC News predicts that Canada will host at least 130,000 new permanent residents between July and September this year.
Given this growth momentum, the 432,000 Canadian immigration quota this year may not really be enough.
(2) International students: about 270,000
Every year on the eve of the school season in September, Canada welcomes a large number of international students. In the first quarter of 2022, Canada welcomed nearly 90,000 international students, an increase of 30% compared to the same period in 2021. From July 2021 to September 2021, Canada welcomed more than 200,000 international students. It also means that if the same growth rate is maintained this year, Canada will welcome more than 270,000 international students this summer.
(3) Foreign workers: about 100,000
In the post-pandemic era, there has been a record shortage of jobs in all walks of life in Canada. Labor shortage has become a common problem in Canadian society. Statistics Canada's latest report shows that there were 1,012,900 open jobs in the Canadian job market as of March 2022. This figure once again breaks the historical record of 988,000 vacancies set in September 2021. Between February and March 2022 alone, job openings in Canada increased by 186,400. Filling job openings became key to reviving Canada's economic dynamism, and addressing labor shortages through immigration and foreign labor programs became an urgent need for Canada for a time. Combined with PROJECTIONS FROM THE IMP AND TFWP, Canada will welcome 110,000-120,000 foreign workers this summer.
In view of the shortage of foreign workers, B.C. employer-sponsored immigration is the only way for white-collar workers to choose to immigrate quickly to Canada. Is a joint (PNP) immigration program run by the B.C. government and the Federal Department of Immigration agreement to help B.C. employers hire and retain qualified foreign skilled workers with the required skills. Applications from the Federal Ministry of Immigration for provincial nomination of skilled migrants will be processed on a priority basis. Employers do not need to apply for approval from the Federal Ministry of Human Resources, and the employer's business can apply directly to the provincial government for the nomination of immigrants as long as it meets certain requirements, agrees to hire and sponsor the applicant.
All in all, we can see more than 500,000 people gaining permanent residency in Canada.
