On July 19, 1985, as guns roared from post No. 6 on the Laoshan front, Wei Changjin gritted his teeth and shoved his eyeballs back into his orbit, then dragged the radio to his side and strapped several grenades. This was his last line of defense, ready to die with the enemy!

At that time, Wei Changjin's platoon was ordered to garrison an unnamed highland. This was an abrupt hill, but it was the most fierce strategic point for the enemy and us, and the sixth post held by Wei Changjin, Zhang Zequn, Cheng Yushan, and five other fighters was at the forefront of the position, less than ten meters away from the enemy's position.

In the early morning of the 19th, Wei Changjin suddenly received an order that the enemy wanted to concentrate the strength of two battalions and one company to launch an attack on the nameless heights, and the sixth post was the first to bear the brunt of it, which was one of the positions that the enemy was heavily fighting for, and it was necessary to hold firm and wait for reinforcements, and must not let the position fall into the hands of the enemy.

After receiving the order, Wei Changjin hurriedly woke up his comrades-in-arms and rushed out of the cave to enter their respective firing positions. However, as soon as they entered the position, a dense barrage of shells landed on the position, followed by swarms of Vietnamese troops, swarming towards the position under the cover of artillery fire.

Wei Changjin and his comrades returned fire with submachine guns, and from time to time threw grenades into the enemy group, and smoke covered the entire Sixth Post.

In the fierce battle, Wei Changjin suddenly felt a sharp pain in his collarbone and left arm, and then a warm stream of liquid gushed out, it was obvious that he had been shot, but the enemy was right in front of him, and there was no time to bandage.

While strafing with a machine gun, he picked up the grenades and explosive canisters around him and smashed them into the enemy group.

The fierce battle lasted for ten minutes, and the five warriors repelled the enemy's first round of attack, but only Wei Changjin, Miao Tinglong, and Wu Dongmei were left on the position.

Wei Changjin understood that the enemy would soon launch a second round of attack, and the artillery fire would be more fierce, so he hurriedly shouted for the two comrades to move to the cave.

But as soon as they reached the mouth of the cave, dense shells exploded behind them, and a huge wave of air threw them out of the way, and Wei Changjin fainted with two black eyes.

The fierce sound resounded through the cave, and Wei Changjin slowly woke up in the tremor of the sound wave, but he felt a blur in front of his eyes, and a fleshy ball was shrugging on the left half of his face.

He touched it with his hand, only to learn that his left eyeball had been blown out, and then he gritted his teeth and stuffed the eyeball back, rubbing his right eye hard, and only then could he barely see the situation inside the hole.

Comrade-in-arms Miao Tinglong had already died, and Wu Dongmei, who was covered in wounds, hurriedly found a first aid kit and wanted to bandage Wei Changjin. But a shell exploded at the mouth of the cave again, Wu Dongmei was killed on the spot, and Wei Changjin was penetrated by shell fragments through his ribs and fainted again.

Soon after, Wei Changjin slowly woke up, the inside of the cave was pitch black, the entrance to the cave had been blocked by the falling boulders, but he could clearly hear the enemy chattering outside the cave.

He scrambled to find a box of ammunition, threw the mine to the entrance of the hole, and then dragged the radio to his side and tied a grenade, which was the last line of defense.

Through the radio, Wei Changjin reported the situation of the position to the platoon and guided the artillery fire to cover the position at post number six. In this way, he held out until more than eight o'clock in the evening, during which time he repelled several enemy attacks until reinforcements arrived.

After the war, Wei Changjin was seriously injured and lost too much blood, and after seven days and seven nights of medical personnel working hard to rescue him, he was freed from danger, and was later awarded the title of "Combat Hero" by the Central Military Commission!
