To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the return of the HKSAR to the motherland, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of the HKSAR Government launched the "Flowers Delight City" scheme in June, which will carry out landscaping works in stages at up to 51 major parks and locations in all districts of Hong Kong, including the installation of flower seas, flower walls and themed gardens, so that the public can feel the joyful atmosphere of celebrating the return of the motherland amid the flowers.
The sea of flowers in the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section) is called "Red Glory of Hong Kong", covering an area of 420 square meters, and the two-meter-high golden sign celebrating the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to The Motherland stands in the spotlight. Many citizens have stopped to admire and take photos.
LCSD has mobilized about 16,000 pots of flowers, all of which bloom in the summer and are brightly coloured, reflecting Hong Kong's colourful, culturally diverse, flexible and inclusive character. In addition to flowering periods and colour schemes, LCSD also takes into account the allegory of flowers, e.g. the flower language of periwinkle is firmness, youthfulness and pleasant memories; The flower language of blue pig's ear is miss, youth, and fancy years; The flower language of the hundred-day chrysanthemum is that the sky is long and the sky is long, and it rises step by step; The flower language of the anchovy ball is eternal and sincere love. Together, they represent the efforts and achievements of Hong Kong people, and they also imply a better future.
Not far from the sea of flowers, there is a 4-meter-high and 10-meter-long flower wall, which is composed of skyscrapers, peak trams and other patterns. The theme of the flower wall is "Charming Metropolis", so the landscape rich in local characteristics of the Central and Western Districts was chosen to create an atmosphere of vitality and prosperity.
The LCSD said that on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, it hoped that the public would always feel the excitement of the city and deepen their understanding of the community in a joyful atmosphere.
