Denmark and Canada have resolved a 50-year territorial dispute known as the "Whiskey War" — the two countries agree on ownership of the uninhabited island of Tartupaluk near Greenland, the Danish Foreign Ministry reported.

When the two countries signed an agreement in 1973 to demarcate the boundaries of the Strait of Nares, they could not agree on ownership of the 1.2 square kilometers of Hans Island. In 1984, Canadian troops landed, planted their national flag there, and left a bottle of whiskey. Soon, Danish soldiers arrived on the island, changed the flag to the Danish flag, drank whiskey and left gin behind. Such "whiskey wars" became a tradition – the army "exchanged gifts" several times a year and raised flags on the island of Hans.

Now they decided to divide Hans in half, part of Denmark and part of Canada.

I feel that the solution to many disputed islands is instructive.
