The China General Administration of Customs issued a notice on June 10 saying that the import of grouper from Taiwan will be suspended from June 13, 2022. The notice said that since last year, grouper imported from Taiwan has repeatedly detected malachite green and crystalline violet banned drugs, and the content of oxytetracycline has also exceeded the standard. In order to protect the lives and health of consumers, in accordance with the relevant laws and standards of the mainland, it was decided to suspend the import of grouper in Taiwan.
It is understood that malachite green was included in the "List of Veterinary Drugs and Other Compounds Banned for Food Animals" by the Ministry of Agriculture more than ten years ago. Earliest, malachite green was used as an insecticide, fungicide and preservative for aquatic products, but then it was found that after it entered humans and animals, it was more toxic and had a long residual time, increasing the risk of deformity and cancer.
Crystal violet belongs to the triphenylmethane dye, which also has carcinogenic and mutagenic hazards. Oxytetracycline is a tetracyclic antibiotic, and long-term consumption of aquatic products exceeding the standard of oxytetracycline is more harmful to liver function.
Therefore, many countries and regions around the world have extremely strict control over peacock green, crystal violet, oxytetracycline, etc. in imported aquatic products, and basically adopt a "zero tolerance" attitude.
In fact, at the end of 2021, the General Administration of Customs banned the import of live fish from two farms in Taiwan into the mainland due to the problem of drug abuse, and strengthened inspection and quarantine of other farms in accordance with the deployment control instructions. Previously, it belonged to the "killing of chickens and monkeys", but the Taiwan region was indifferent, and it was also self-inflicted that it was forbidden to import them.
As soon as the mainland ban was issued, the Taiwan authorities jumped out and denounced the mainland's suspension of the import of grouper as a "crackdown on Taiwan" with "political purposes" and would "one-sidedly harm cross-strait relations." This scene is extremely familiar, and after the mainland suspended the import of some fruits from Taiwan last year, the Tsai authorities were also so angry.
In 2021, due to the detection of harmful substances such as the ocean gluteal mealybug from fruits imported from Taiwan, in order to prevent the risk of plant epidemics, the import of pineapple, shakya and lotus mist in Taiwan was suspended on March 1 and September 20. Moreover, before banning the import of fruits from the Taiwan region, the mainland had issued warnings many times, and repeatedly and repeatedly, the problem has not been solved, and can only be banned.
However, it is such a normal thing, but it seems to have stabbed the "horse honeycomb", and the Taiwan authorities have fried the pan and adopted a series of unbelievable "retaliatory" moves to beat a rake upside down. First, they threatened that "this is not in line with international norms" and clamored that if the mainland did not accept the fruit, it would file a complaint with the WTO. Seeing that the Tsai Ing-wen authorities had resorted to what they thought were effective "killer tactics" and "reciprocal sanctions" to ban mainland fruits from entering Taiwan. Mainland products are already on the list of agricultural products that are prohibited from being imported in Taiwan.
In order to show their determination to "decouple" from the mainland, the DPP authorities also vowed to tell fruit farmers that they had opened up the Japanese market with pineapples and no longer needed to rely on the mainland. In fact, due to the large number of pineapple bugs and the internal black heart in Taiwan, it has repeatedly encountered a wall in Japan, and the price was once as low as 100 yen per piece, and even the cost price could not be reached. The so-called domestic sales and processing of the Taiwan authorities are even more a drop in the bucket.
Previously, in the face of unsalable pineapples, the crooked trick given by the Taiwan authorities was to suggest that the People of Taiwan eat pineapple as a dish, pineapple shrimp balls, pineapple fried intestines, pineapple fried grouper, pineapple fried fungus, etc., only you can't think of it, there is nothing they can't say. Some officials also appeared and said, "Pineapples must be eaten whole to enjoy it."
The mainland has always been the largest export market and source of trade surplus in Taiwan, if the mainland does not import fruits from Taiwan, the local people will not be able to digest it no matter how much they eat, and they can only rot in the ground. I don't know how many Taiwanese people will be advised to eat in order to sell grouper in the future?
In fact, the problem is very easy to solve, as of now, the response given by the mainland side has been to suspend the input, rather than permanently ban. What the Taiwan side needs to do is to strengthen the testing of aquatic products and agricultural and sideline products so that the products meet the standards. Instead of solving the root cause of the problem, the Tsai Ing-wen authorities have engaged in political manipulation and pushed the black pot onto the mainland, and the only thing that can be harmed in the end can be the fruit farmers and fishermen in the Taiwan region.
On June 15, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made it clear at a regular press conference that "food safety is related to the health and safety of the people, and since last year, the mainland has repeatedly informed the relevant authorities in Taiwan of the unqualified situation of many batches of groupers and asked them to improve, but has never provided evidence of rectification." Recently, banned drugs have been detected on grouper imported from Taiwan for many times, and for the sake of people's health, the General Administration of Customs has suspended the import of Grouper from Taiwan scientifically reasonable and completely justified. ”
In addition, Ma Xiaoguang also reprimanded the Taiwan authorities for not fulfilling their supervisory responsibilities and not reflecting on their own problems, but instead using this opportunity to engage in political manipulation, create cross-strait antagonism, stir up dissension, and put their own selfish interests above the overall interests of Taiwan's fishermen.
The Taiwan authorities want to let the mainland import fruits and aquatic products, but instead of actively solving the problem, they use political manipulation to exert pressure, which is indeed in line with the Tsai Ing-wen authorities' inverted black and white nature. But we are not soft persimmons, the health of the people needs to be guaranteed, it is not that others want to sell us to pick up, and never get used to it.
The Taiwan region has fallen into the cold winter of the fruit industry, and now aquatic products have also fallen into this situation, which has a lot to do with the DPP authorities' single-minded desire to engage in "economic decoupling." It is inseparable from the mainland, and the DPP authorities do not weigh up their own pounds and a few pounds to maintain the mainland market, so as to truly solve the dilemma they are currently facing.
