Shanghai returned, but they could not hold on

How many cultural enterprises in Shanghai were affected by the shutdown from April to June? In early June, the illustrated Whale Bookstore announced its closure. As the most popular store in Huangpu District, although it stands out among the independent bookstores with different forms, the "old store" that has been established for five years has not escaped the fate of closing the store. It is understood that June 21 is the last day of operation of the Whale Bookstore, while its online part continues to operate.

If the shutdown is the last straw that overwhelms the physical store, then rent, labor, inventory, etc. are the heavy "three mountains". Several independent bookstores in Shanghai have also announced the closure of physical stores this year, and how has the shutdown affected the art world? In addition to the postponement of the art fair, art galleries and galleries are closed, and the real impact may not be reflected until the second half of the year. It is said that some galleries are already in contact with the sale.

Countdown to the Youth Art 100 Auditions

Countdown to the 2022 Young Art 100 Artist Auditions! From March 18 to June 18, the three-month call for the call is coming to an end. In line with the concept of "The Future of Art, You and I Go Together", Young Art 100 sends out invitations to artists around the world who dream of art. The call for "no less than 6 works" is "not limited to art categories", which means that paintings, sculpture installations, videos and short films, photography, new media, cross-media, etc. are available, and there are 6 registered works including artists' representative works and works that can be exhibited.

Since its inception in 2011, Youth Art 100 has been taking young artists as the core of its services, exploring various channels for promoting young artists, and establishing a strong reputation and influence in the industry. Every year, after the artist audition, a grand group exhibition is tailored for the artist, and all the shortlisted works this year will be exhibited at the Beijing Guardian Art Center during the winter period. Not only can it get multi-dimensional and continuous media promotion and exposure throughout the year, but also can participate in diversified art projects such as art residency, art cross-border, and art township construction.

In addition to exhibitions and promotions, diversified awards and 100,000+ prize pools have become an important boost for young artists on the road to art. The awards include the Jianxin Trust Art Award, the Phoenix Art Rising Star Award, and the Laili Youth Art Award, and the shortlisted artists will participate in the Youth Art 100 Exhibition Manager Program to build an interactive dialogue platform for artists and curators.

Using Art to Talk about an "Environmental Love"

From May 14th to July 3rd, the "Environmental Love Exhibition - Works of Suzanne Husky and Tong Yixin", jointly sponsored by Today Art Museum and the French Embassy in China, was exhibited in Hall 1 of today Art Museum. The two artists are the recipients of the inaugural Cai Guanshen Foundation Contemporary Art Prize, which rewards their exploration of the ecological environment and the interconnection of contemporary art creation.

The environmental consciousness in Tong Yixin's work contains the qualities of dehumanization. The Night Vision series focuses on wild nocturnal creatures, showing the survival relationship of life forms from an unconventional perspective; Through text and light painting, the "Handbook of Environmental Protection" series transforms the words of inspiration into the carrier of art, and the poems scattered throughout the exhibition hall are like the fluttering words in the corners of the city.

Husky is attracted to the powerful animal of the beaver, and a series of printed sketches and photographs show the dam being built under the command of the beaver, the "architect of the rodent world", calling attention to the potential of environmental protection; The video work "On the Reproduction of Mermaids in the Shipwreck Period" combines narration, role playing, and animation to respond to the question of whether this passion for environmental protection is just a fantasy in the face of the tragedy that the world is about to overturn.

The Long Museum of Art has been closed urgently

At 7:28 on June 8, the Long Museum issued an emergency notice: Receiving the notice of the superior department, in order to meet the requirements of epidemic prevention and control, the Long Art Museum (West Bund Pavilion) needs to be temporarily closed, and the audiences who have already made reservations will be notified by phone and SMS one by one, and the appointment opportunity will be reserved. The last announcement of the resumption of opening was released at 17:00 on June 7, announcing that it would resume opening from June 8. It was only 14 hours before it was opened, and it was closed again before it was opened.

Xu Beihong's digital collection licensing dispute

In order to issue the licensing of digital collections, Xu Beihong Art Museum issued two statements on May 29 and June 2, secretly stamping the 8 Xu Beihong digital ink horse collections authorized by the Beijing Imperial City Art Exchange Center and released by the magic core platform, which have no connection with Xu Beihong. The first statement clearly stated that the Times Beihong (Beijing) Culture and Art Center is an independent cultural and art center authorized by Xu Beihong's descendants, which is the operator and art partner of "Xu Beihong Art Museum"; The second statement once again emphasized that a number of digital collection distribution companies have taken some paintings of unknown origin and unclear traceability and issued digital collections under the name of "Mr. Xu Beihong's works", in the name of inheriting Chinese culture, deceiving consumers.

Xu Beihong's digital collection licensing dispute, when Picasso meets Ingres and El Greco | Artistic chestnuts

Previously, Xu Beihong Art Museum has authorized multiple platforms to release a number of digital collections. It is interesting to note that, based on the provisions of the Mainland's Copyright Law, Xu Beihong, who has been dead for more than 50 years, can be authorized for use by buyers who purchase his works, which means that the owner of the property rights of the works can authorize the sale of digital collections. So now the core of the problem is cleverly returned to the original question - authenticity. As for the authenticity of the works in this incident, this is not something we can conclude. Leaving aside this incident, authenticity is indeed a hidden concern for digital collections. The digital collection developed in the name of "art" ultimately returns to the artistic value of the work itself.

When Picasso met Ingres and El Greco

As one of the most important artists of the 20th century, Picasso always seems to have a topic of endless discussion, and this June there were two Picasso "Dialogue" exhibitions held at the same time. From 3 June to 9 October, the exhibition "Picasso-Ingres: Face to Face" was held at the National Gallery of Art; From 11 June to 25 September, the exhibition "Picasso-El Greco" takes place at the Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland.

Picasso and Ingres's "face to face" unfolds in two works. Ingres continued to spark Picasso's imagination, and the latter's fascination with the former's portrait peaked in Picasso's 1932 Woman with the Book, a work based on Ingres's Sit-in Lady Mowat Snow, two paintings created more than 80 years apart. In 1921, Picasso was fascinated at first sight when he saw "The Sedentary Madame Of Mewat Snow" at an exhibition in Paris, and since then he has repeatedly borrowed from Ingres and created one of his most famous portraits, "The Woman with the Book", modeled by his young lover Marie-Terez Walter.

In contrast, the "Picasso-El Greco" exhibition is much larger, with more than 40 pairs of works from museums around the world converging into a fascinating "dialogue". Greco's influence on Picasso ranged from early Cubism to his work in the 1930s and 1940s, and even at the end of his life, Picasso was still borrowing from Greco. This exhibition is not only a dialogue for outstanding artists, but also provides new insights into the development of avant-garde art in the 20th century.

Shangbo joined hands with "No. 600" to push the healing mask

How else can cultural creation be "played"? The Shanghai Mental Health Center is completely out of the loop. After the Dragon Boat Festival, the masks launched by the center and the Shanghai Museum were "on fire". No. 600 Wanping South Road, as the house number of the center, has also become a symbol of special significance. The masks named "Cheering" series of cultural creations not only printed with the door number of "No. 600 Wanping South Road" and the logo of Shanghai Mental Health Center, but also words such as "spiritual food", "fighting monsters and upgrading", "shanghai power" and so on.

In recent years, No. 600 Wanping South Road has frequently exploded because of the surrounding area of cultural creativity, in addition to mooncakes, coffee, green dough and other foods, as well as daily necessities. The "pumping" mask launched this time, the background pattern on the mask comes from the collection of the Shanghai Museum, I hope that these careful thoughts can add some fun to life, less anxiety and more happiness.

Ming and Qing dynasty archives reveal the daily life of the royal family

June 9 is International Archives Day, and due to the impact of the epidemic, the newly completed new China First Historical Archive cannot be opened to the public, so an online exhibition hall has been opened. In the past, it was necessary to look at the collection through the glass, but with the online exhibition hall, you can "closely" look at the collection, and some interesting pictures have also subverted the previous imagination of the collection. For example, the jade that records the imperial population and clan genealogy of the Qing Dynasty, can you imagine that the big jade will be so big?

The Daoguang Emperor made his fourth son Yixuan (Emperor Xianfeng) crown prince

In the Ming and Qing dynasties, most of the massive "Great Inner Archives" of a wide variety of kinds, such as public opinion maps, recitals, edicts, inscriptions, sonatas, and golden lists, most of which are treasured in China's first historical archive, with a total of more than 10 million pieces, the museum has selected 267 groups of treasure archives, and launched two major exhibitions, "Lantai Hanmo Family Spring and Autumn - Ming and Qing Historical Archives Exhibition" and "Carrying Thousands of Autumns - Ming and Qing Archives Display", which for the first time concentrated on displaying the precious archives of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

There are many collections worth savoring in the exhibition, including the only surviving physical witness to the much-discussed historical event of the succession to the throne- the Secret Storage Box of the Daoguang Emperor. The archives that recorded the life of the court also revealed another side of royal life. For example, this pet roster, these cats and dogs are registered, there are special people to keep, the name is sometimes Yangchun White Snow, sometimes under the Riba people. In it, a dog named "Chestnut" was also found.

At the age of 16, Rego was sent to England by her parents to study art at the Slade School of Fine Arts at University College London. In 1965, she joined the exhibition with David Hockney and others in the exhibition of the radical British painters group London Group. An internationally recognized artist while alive, Rego did not welcome his first major exhibition in the UK until 1987. Artist Tracy Emin once asked her if she ever felt undervalued, to which Rego responded, "I was confused and penniless. Whenever I sell a painting, I feel a great relief."
