According to data and survey statistics, there have been 85 species of fish in Beijing, which belong to 11 orders, 20 families and 67 genera, and there have also been otters, baby fish and other national key protected aquatic animals, but in recent years, surveys have shown that there are only more than 40 species of fish in Beijing, and the conservation of species diversity is not optimistic.
In 2012, the Notice of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Agriculture on Publishing the Directory of Aquatic Wild Animals under Local Secondary Protection announced 16 species and 1 class of locally protected fish. Since 2012, the Beijing Aquatic Wildlife Rescue Center has carried out the restoration of local rare aquatic animal species, and released more than 750,000 rare indigenous fish such as fine-scaled salmon, multi-scaled white turtle, Chinese spiny fish, and Waltzsia jasper, initially curbing the rapid decline of aquatic biodiversity and making positive contributions to the maintenance and improvement of the ecological environment in Beijing's waters.
