NCAA Michigan newcomer Caleb Holstein is suspected of getting a first-round commitment from the Thunder

When Caleb Houstan chose not to participate in the NBA joint trial, speculation immediately began that the University of Michigan rookie forward had received a first-round commitment from a team.

According to The Athletic reporters John Hollinger and Sam Vecenie, the Oklahoma Thunder are considered the team most likely to make such a commitment.

The Thunder had three draft picks in the first round (the pick, the 12th pick and the 30th pick), and the team is expected to promise Khostein with the 30th pick. Given the Thunder's glut of draft picks, and their long history of drafting in April, these doubts are serious. Holstein wasn't even the first University of Michigan player to do this with the Thunder, followed by senior Mitch McGary.

A former five-star high school student at Montverde College in Florida, Holstein played in 34 games in his freshman season, averaging 10.1 points, 4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, shooting 35.5 percent from three-point range.

The 6-8 (2m 03) striker was seen as a potential lotto candidate before the season, but failed to meet expectations in his freshman season. He is currently a second-round candidate in most mock drafts and may need to develop his potential in the G-League.

While Holstein may have received draft promises from the Thunder or other teams, he may have chosen to skip joint trials and return to college for his sophomore season. The deadline for staying in colleges is June 1, so next week's situation is worth keeping an eye on.
