Lien Payne, a former member of the United Kingdom group Generation One, died suddenly at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the age of 31. The other members of the first generation, including Harry Styles, Nell Horan, Zane Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, issued a joint statement on Thursday, United States time (Taiwan time 18th), expressing "extreme grief" over the death of former member Lien Payne.

"We are heartbroken by the passing of Lien. In due course, when everyone is ready, there will be more to say. But now, we need some time to mourn and accept the passing of our beloved brother. The memories shared with him will always be cherished in our hearts. For now, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fans who love him with us. He will be sorely missed. Lien, we love you."

Louis posted a photo with Lian En on his personal IG, and it was difficult to hide his sadness, "I am extremely sad when I write this paragraph, because I lost a brother yesterday. Liam is someone I look up to every day, he is full of positive energy, humor and kindness", he met Lian En when he was 18 years old at the time, and was amazed by Lian's voice, "I recognized this good brother I have longed for all my life", and said bluntly, "Liam is the most crucial part of a generation in my opinion. He has had experience since he was a child, perfect pitch, stage charisma, and creative talent. The list goes on. Thank you, Lien, for shaping us." He concludes his essay by referring to Len's son, writing to Len, "I want you to know that if Bear needs me, I will be the uncle he needs in his life to tell him the story of what an amazing father he is."

Zane Malik posted a long post in white on IG to mourn Lien, "When I was 17 years old and homesick, you always stayed by my side with a positive attitude and a comforting smile, letting me know that you are my friend and I am loved." Although Lian En is younger than him, he is always more rational than himself, "Although we have had a few arguments because of this, I have always secretly admired you for this." He admitted in a past interview that he did not agree with the members of the group, and Lian En apologized through a YT video in 2023, saying that what he said at the time "came from the wrong mentality".
