Formerly the official residence of French colonialists, the National Museum of Cameroon became the presidential palace of the president after independence, and was later abandoned by personnel changes. In 1988, the government decided to convert it into a museum, and after years of planning and construction, the museum officially opened in 2015. The main building of the museum covers an area of 5,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 15 hectares. There are about 22 exhibition halls in the museum, and there are currently thousands of exhibits, including local musical instruments, bronze and wood carvings, Stone Age artifacts, pottery, and traditional tribal kingdom artifacts.
