Embiid has three nationalities: Cameroon, France and United States, and let's go into chronological order: Embiid was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on March 16, 1994. In the summer of 2011, he attended Bamot's training camp. In September 2011, with Bamot's help, Embiid left Cameroon to attend his senior year of high school in the United States.

Embiid was named to Cameroon's 30-man qualifying squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in February 2017, but he did not play. On July 5, 2022, Embiid officially became a France citizen. On September 30, 2022, Embiid became a United States citizen. In April 2023, the France men's basketball coach said Embiid plans to play for France in the Paris Olympics.

On October 6, 2023, Embiid announced that he would represent the United States men's basketball team at the Paris Olympics. Embiid explained his decision: "My son was born in the United States and I want him to know that my first Olympics were fought for him. This reason, in fact, is not convincing. As soon as the news came out, the France Basketball Association and France fans were furious.

The president of the France Basketball Association stood up and replied to Embiid for the first time: "In March 2022, you took the initiative to ask to meet with us and offered to play for the France men's basketball team!" We helped you obtain France citizenship at your request, but you have now decided to play for the United States men's basketball team. We shouldn't waste our energy trying to get those naturalization papers! ”

In April 2024, France media exposed Embiid's handwritten letter to France President Emmanuel Macron, dated October 28, 2021. Embiid made it clear in the letter: "I hope to obtain France citizenship and play for the France men's basketball team." With the exception of France, I never had the idea of wearing a national jersey. ”

In order to get France nationality, Embiid showed loyalty to the France men's basketball team, but after getting the nationality, he changed! Then there's another question: Embiid has already played an Olympics for United States, can he still play for Cameroon? In the 2023 Olympic Qualification Tournament and the 2024 Olympic Qualification Tournament, Gordon played for the Bahamas.

Article 22 of Book 3 of the 2021 FIBA Governing Statutes states that if it is in the best interests of basketball development for a player to change national teams, FIBA may authorize the player to play for another country. FIBA believes that the Bahamas is a developing basketball national team, and the United States Basketball Association has agreed to let it go, so Gordon can change teams.

With Gordon as a precedent, FIBA will not stop Embiid from playing for Cameroon as long as the United States Basketball Association nods. In the Paris Olympics, Embiid played an average of 18.2 minutes per game, scoring 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 2.3 turnovers, and shooting 58.3%, 54.5%, and 57.1% from three. In the semifinals, he scored 19 points and 4 rebounds!
