The 1900 Series has proven to be increasingly versatile, excelling on both the road and on the track. So Alpha Engineers decided to prepare a "super" engine that could run faster.

In 1954, in order to fulfill the advertising proposition of calling 1900 a "race-winning family car" and make the engine more powerful, Alfa Romeo increased the piston hole by 2 mm, increased the displacement to 1975 cm3 (from the original 1884 cm 3), and upgraded performance as a result.

These new versions are distinguished by adding the word "super" to the name. The series spawned three new models – the 1900 Super, the 1900 Super T.I. and the 1900 Super Sprint coupe. The super model offers 90 horsepower, while the T.I. with double barrel carburetor The Super and Super Sprint unleashed 115 horsepower.

The Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint was designed and assembled with a Touring Superleggera bodywork and, like earlier Sprint models, had a structural steel support chassis and an aluminum body, with the same mechanical construction as the other 1900 models – independent front suspension, rigid rear axle with triangular central arms and four-drum brakes. Unlike previous Sprint models, these cars are equipped with a 5-speed transmission.

From 1955 to 1958, the Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint produced a total of 599 units, divided into two series, the first with a shift lever on the steering wheel and the second with a sports gear lever arrangement installed on the central tunnel, as was the last model of the first series.

The 1900 series was completed by an elegant convertible made by Pinin Farina and the original three-door primavera (Spring) made by body builder Boano, and was also available in two-tone versions. Touring Coupés and Pinin Farina convertibles are featured in a collection sold directly by Alfa Romeo dealers.

But the most powerful and jaw-dropping creation was undoubtedly the 1900 C52, an experimental sports car better known as the Disco Volante, which was also made by Touring. Its output power was increased to 158 horsepower, and the racing tubular chassis reduced the total weight to 735 kg and the top speed was 220 km /h.

The 1900 Super Sprint was highly regarded by gentleman riders and private teams as the winning model in the category. Its road-holding force, speed and reliability make it a success model in the travel-grade displacement category, while the touring coupe is also a success in the GT category. These cars compete in a variety of speed and endurance races, often achieving excellent results on tracks and roads in Italy and abroad.
