"Although there is generally no snow in Guangzhou in winter, this can stimulate our imagination of ice and snow sports." Cao Xue, the designer of the mascot "Ice Pier" of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, recently shared the creation process of the Guangzhou City LOGO and the mascot of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics "Ice Pier" at the Theme Exchange Meeting of the "Nansha Cruise Homeport Cup" Youth Culture and Art Design Competition in Guangzhou.

At the exchange meeting, Cao Xue told about his complex with the Greater Bay Area, and shared it in combination with actual design cases; in addition, he also recalled the creation process of the Guangzhou city LOGO and the mascot "Ice Pier" for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

"This LOGO is composed of the word 'Guangzhou' into the graphic of Guangzhou's new landmark Canton Tower, which has strong recognition and modern beauty." Cao Xue introduced that the LOGO design was repeatedly brewed and demonstrated, selected from 7 schemes; in the image of Guangzhou City, the curve on the left side of the LOGO has four colors. Green represents spring, rose red represents summer, orange yellow represents autumn, and blue represents winter.

"At that time, in order to modify the design of the mascot of the Beijing Winter Olympics, we sometimes had to go from Guangzhou to Beijing twice in one day." Talking about the design of the mascot "Ice Pier" for the 2020 Beijing Winter Olympics, Cao Xue said that this was a very special experience, from the decision to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympic Mascot Collection Competition to the final winning the selection, the Guangmei design team led by him was under tremendous creative pressure.

"In a year, we created more than 500 cartoon images, drew tens of thousands of sketches, and the total number of 3D renderings exceeded 100G." Cao Xue told reporters that he led the formation of a total of 14 team members, composed of teachers and graduate students from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.

"This 'audition' can be described as the world's attention, the Winter Olympic Organizing Committee received more than 6,000 design manuscripts from all over the world, although we are not fully sure to become the lucky 1/6,000, but everyone is still insisting, this part is a dream, part is the love and pursuit of design art." Cao Xue said.

"When I saw that during the parade of floats celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the 'ice piers' climbed the 'sports power' phalanx and took the float through Tiananmen Square, I felt that the previous efforts were too worthwhile." Cao Xue's face couldn't help but show pride and pride.

Cao Xue believes that design is only carried out in the present tense, there is no past tense, and there is no real sense of the future tense. Everyone can only live in the "present", and no one can answer the questions of the future. Design should "live" in the present moment, and so should life.

As the chairman of the jury of the "Nansha Cruise Homeport Cup" Youth Culture and Art Design Competition, Cao Xue's thinking and exploration of design brought enlightening artistic ideas to the art college students on the spot.

"As a design student, after listening to Mr. Cao's lecture, I found a new direction for my graduation design." Li of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts said that she had been struggling with the theme of the graduation design before, and now she wanted to return the design to life and complete her graduation design in combination with the scenes of daily life.
