Recently, Kia and the Dutch non-profit organization "The Ocean Cleanup" officially signed a contract, the two sides to create a sustainable partnership. Kia will use The Ocean Cleanup's innovative technology to clean up and collect plastic waste from the ocean, building a "Resource Circulation" for Kia's vehicle production and reuse, and taking a solid step towards a sustainable future.

The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, is committed to protecting ecosystems by developing systems to clean up floating plastics in the Pacific Ocean and collecting garbage from rivers through unmanned barges called Interceptor.

Kia plans to support The Ocean Cleanup's marine and river litter cleanup project over the next 7 years. Specifically, Kia will provide The Ocean Cleanup with the steel needed to build the feeders, and the non-profit organization with four eco-friendly electric vehicles (including 1 Kia EV6 and 3 Kia Niro EVs) and their associated operating expenses, and the plastics recovered from the ocean will be reused in the production of Kia's complete vehicles.

At the same time, in order to practice sustainable development, Kia plans to increase the use of renewable plastics in its vehicles to more than 20% by 2030. In addition, in order to minimize the impact on the climate when disposing of abandoned vehicles, Kia will establish and activate the "Virtuous Recycling Loop" to improve the reuse of waste batteries, plastics, etc., and further contribute to environmental protection.

Last November, Kia unveiled its corporate vision to become a Sustainable Mobility Solutions Provider, aiming to contribute to the development of customers, communities and global societies through sustainable mobility solutions. In order to achieve this corporate vision, Kia has taken the "Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2045" as a basic premise and actively explored offsetting solutions to achieve net zero emissions not only in the stage of vehicle use, but also in every stage of the whole value chain such as supply, production, logistics and recycling.

Last November, Kia unveiled its corporate vision to become a "sustainable mobility solution provider."

Kia accelerated its electrification transition based on the initially successful "Plan S" medium- and long-term strategy for the largest proportion of total carbon emissions, and officially unveiled the "Strategy 2030" at the Investor Conference in March this year. Based on this strategy, Kia plans to launch at least two pure electric vehicles per year starting in 2023 and build an electrified product lineup with 14 pure electric vehicles by 2027.

As Kia's first exclusive electric model to accelerate its transition to electrification, the EV6 is leading a new direction of sustainability. This exclusive electric model based on Kia's dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) is also the first model at Kia to practice net zero emissions in the entire value chain, from design to recycling.

From the outset of design, kia's design team assessed the potential environmental impact of the raw materials used in the EV6 manufacturing process and worked with the manufacturing department to identify new fixing technologies to facilitate disassembly and manufacturing.

Not only that, the interior of the EV6 also incorporates the latest developments from Kia Hive. Using a range of recyclable resources, Hive's experts have developed new materials and finishes that are environmentally appropriate, including the latest mushroom mycelium technology, which is environmentally friendly in production and disposal. The EV6's interior uses natural, chemical-free alternatives instead of harsh dyes, vegan leather instead of natural leather, and recycled plastic bottles spun into yarn to remake fabrics and cushions.

To this end, the EV6 became the first Ever Korean car to receive a product carbon footprint certification from the Carbon Trust. To complete the EV6's Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Kia proactively monitors emissions throughout the life cycle of the EV6's raw materials, production processes, parts, disposal and end-of-life recycling. This rigorous analysis enables Kia to identify the environmental impact of each link in its value chain and tailor improvement plans to enhance its environmental friendliness at every stage.

At the recent award ceremony of "European Car of the Year 2022" held in Geneva, Switzerland, kia EV6 won the highest honor "European Car of the Year" award. In addition to winning the "European Car of the Year", ev6 has also won a number of world-renowned awards since entering 2022.

The Kia EV6, a pure electric benchmark model that is highly recognized by the global market, will also be introduced to the Chinese market, bringing Chinese consumers a new experience of excellent electric sustainable and environmentally friendly travel. From next year to 2027, starting from the new pure electric vehicle EV6, Kia will launch a new electric vehicle model in the Chinese market every year, gradually building a new EV matrix of 6 electric vehicles, and accelerating the electrification transformation of the Kia brand in China.

However, this is only the achievement of the first exclusive electric model based on the E-GMP platform. In 2023, Kia will also raise the standard again by launching its flagship electric model, the EV9.

The EV9 not only symbolizes Kia's strong commitment to achieving "sustainable mobility solutions." It also demonstrates kia's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality through its corporate vision of a "sustainable mobility solution provider" and making substantial contributions to the global climate change effort in a variety of ways.
