Recently, at the top of Malu Mountain, some photography enthusiasts used the lens to capture a yellow-green waist, red and blue roof cover, golden brown pupils, and a small bird with a beard, which was confirmed by consulting information that the bird was named "black-browed woodpecker". This species of bird is endemic to Taiwan and is relatively rare in the mainland and is now listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
The black-browed woodpecker is a stout body with a thick black eyebrow painted on the eye area, a larger head, a thick and short beak, and a well-developed whiskers. The tail and wings are slightly short, not good at flying, the flight distance is not far, often alone or in groups in the tree, omnivorous, mainly berries, fruits, insects and other staple food. The song is monotonous and loud, often repeated, and its sound is like "Karma, Karma" or "Cluck, Cluck, Clack", much like the sound made by the monk chanting the wooden fish.
In ancient times, people called it "spirit bird" and "noble bird", because there are five colors such as yellow, blue, red, black and green between its body and head and neck, representing the Five Directions and Five Earths of Taoism, also known as the Five Virtues. Therefore, people regard it as an auspicious bird, believing that its appearance will be accompanied by auspicious omens.
According to bird watchers, the black-browed woodpecker once appeared in the mountain body of Queershan Park in 2019, and then disappeared without a trace, reappearing at the top of Malu Mountain after 3 years, which is both exciting and surprising, as if seeing an "old friend" who has not been seen for many years.
In recent years, the ecological environment of Liuzhou City has been continuously optimized, and many animals that were not common in the city have gradually appeared, and now they also attract birds from the "treasure island" taiwan that have crossed the ocean. When traveling, please take care of the environment and protect biodiversity, and do not catch or harm them out of curiosity.
