Volvo Trucks unveils FH I-Save models to continue to lead the commercial vehicle industry in efficient fuel savings

China's transportation industry plays an increasingly important role in economic development, but in the environment of rising external oil prices, low freight rates, and repeated epidemics, the transportation industry has been hit hard.

Under the pressure of the external environment, transport companies or individuals also start from the inside to improve the situation of low efficiency and high cost. Fuel consumption costs account for about one-third of total operating costs. Therefore, the fuel saving and high attendance rate of a heavy truck are particularly important for transportation companies.

On April 28, Volvo Trucks announced the release of volvo Trucks FH I-Save models in the Chinese market through online, once again breaking the record of fuel economy performance in the field of heavy-duty trucks with innovative technology.

Products first FHI-Save soft and hard grasp

Looking at the background of "double carbon" and the current situation of industry development, the commercial vehicle field is facing a challenging period. The transportation industry urgently needs to have a "production tool" that carries a lot of carriers, is fast and has a good experience.

Dong Chenrui, president of Volvo Trucks China, said that low-carbon emission reduction is not only to make pure electric trucks, but also fuel vehicles can do more work. Volvo has been leading the way in its practice in the field of fuel saving and has accumulated a large number of results.

He believes that in the next 10 years, commercial vehicles will also be based on internal combustion engines, and making trucks more fuel-efficient is the key to practicing "double carbon" at present.

In March 2019, Volvo Trucks released the world's revolutionary I-Save technology, a software technology powered on TC engines.

The TC engine is volvo trucks' most fuel-efficient engine to date. With the wavy design at the top of the piston, the compound turbocharger, the air compressor with clutch, and the variable steering pump, fuel economy is improved while comfort is improved, driving smoother and quieter.

The TC engine of the Volvo Truck fH I-Save model has increased the torque by 300 Nm and the maximum torque to 2800 Nm, which is 13% more dynamic, which is the maximum torque of the industry's current models of the same displacement. The fuel saving effect of the TC engine in the range of 85-90 per hour of the vehicle speed is particularly obvious.

In addition, the Volvo Trucks FH I-Save model has also aerodynamically optimized the vehicle design, including the deflector cover, matching tires, front face and other aspects of aerodynamic optimization, resulting in a lower wind resistance coefficient and improved fuel economy. After upgrading and optimization from the inside out, the FH I-Save model with TC engine can save 6% in fuel consumption per 100 kilometers.

According to reports, the power system of the Volvo FH-I Save model will continue to be upgraded, and it is expected that in 2023 it will match the I-See predictive cruise control system and the I-Torque intelligent torque control system, which will further improve the balance between fuel consumption and drivability, and the comprehensive fuel saving of the Volvo Truck FH I-Save model can be as high as 10%.

Do not underestimate the 10% comprehensive fuel saving level, to FH I-Save model 6×4 tractor as an example, 100 kilometers can save about 3 liters of fuel, according to the oil price of 8.00 yuan / liter, the monthly driving mileage of 30,000 kilometers, FH I-Save models can save customers nearly 90,000 yuan per year, plus the cost of urea consumption savings, the annual comprehensive cost can be saved for customers up to more than 100,000 yuan.

Volvo Trucks' leading technological achievements

Volvo Trucks continues to advance fuel-efficient technologies in the field of internal combustion engines.

I—Shift intelligent transmission

When it comes to volvo trucks' fuel-saving technology, we have to mention the I-Shift smart gearbox on the power chain of Volvo trucks. In 2001, the I-Shift intelligent transmission was introduced, and the clutch-based drivetrain is the most efficient automatic shift design, which enables precise gear shifting operations in an optimal manner by using information from the engine and various parts of the vehicle. Helping vehicles improve fuel economy, vehicle performance, safety and driving comfort plays a huge role.

In 2014, Volvo Trucks introduced an I-Shift transmission with dual clutches, which enables uninterrupted power transmission during gear changes, minimizing cargo movement during gear changes, and playing a clear role in the business of transporting liquids.

For 20 years, the I-Shift intelligent transmission has been one of the top innovative technologies leading the industry, and more than 1 million Volvo Trucks around the world are currently using this technology and have obtained a huge amount of data accumulation, thus continuously improving the electrification and software level of Volvo Trucks products.

The latest upgrade of the D13 engine

In order to adapt to the more stringent Euro 6D emission standards, Volvo Trucks introduced new engine software at the end of 2021 and improved the coating of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system.

The D13 diesel engine uses the new VDS-5 low viscosity oil and the new piston ring, which can effectively reduce engine fuel consumption and internal friction. Volvo 500 hp engines have been proven to save more fuel and achieve greater fuel efficiency than 460 and 420 hp engines while maintaining the same high compression ratio.

In addition, Volvo Trucks has many industry-landmark safety and driving technology achievements, such as driving side airbags, dual-clutch transmissions, VDS dynamic steering systems and more.

People-oriented, continue to help transport people grow

Volvo Trucks incorporates a "people-oriented" philosophy into every detail of its products and services. Dong Chenrui has repeatedly expressed his concern for the truck driver group at the event.

In May 2021, Volvo Trucks announced the official introduction of the new generation of FH, FM and FMX series into the Chinese market at the New Generation Volvo Trucks Launch Tasting Meeting in Dunhuang with the theme of "Every Journey to Dream". This event once again followed the theme of the event to pay tribute to every "behind-the-scenes hero" in the logistics and transportation industry.

At present, there are more than 80% of the self-employed and small and medium-sized enterprises in the transport industry, and they are the mainstay of the transport industry. During the epidemic, countless transporters, like retrogrades from all walks of life, have played an important role in the anti-epidemic activities.

Dong Chenrui said that the work of truck drivers is hard work, tired work, dirty work, there are only 18 million truck drivers, how to attract and train young people into this industry is very important.

He introduced that Volvo Trucks will continue to strengthen the training of transport groups, in addition to cultivating male transporters, it will further explore how to make female transporters better adapt to the industry.

Volvo Trucks Fuel Efficiency Fuel Saving Challenge

Volvo Trucks was the first truck manufacturer to promote the Efficient Fuel Saving Challenge in the Chinese market in 2009. The Fuel Efficiency Challenge is not only a race, but also a race that proves that skilled truck drivers can have a huge and direct impact on safe driving, fuel consumption, corporate profitability and carbon emissions, bringing new development opportunities for truck drivers.

The event gained Volvo Trucks a wide reputation in the Chinese market and led to the professional training of drivers in the commercial vehicle industry.

Volvo Trucks Green Driving Academy

At the same time, Volvo has always paid attention to the professional development of drivers, and launched the "Volvo Trucks Green Driving Academy" in 2014 to help truck drivers gradually establish safe driving and green driving habits by providing cutting-edge driving technology training opportunities for truck drivers.

Under the guidance of the Road Traffic Safety Research Center of the Ministry of Public Security, the Volvo Truck Green Driving Academy Training Camp not only provides students with simulated driving training, but also provides free safe, fuel-saving and efficient truck driving theory study and driving practice courses. Over the years, Volvo Trucks has helped many transporters grow themselves and delivered many great drivers to transport companies.
