According to David Ornstein, Arsenal youth team shooter Edwards has signed Arsenal on a long-term professional contract.
The Athletic's David Ornstein reported that Edwards signed a new contract with Arsenal last week until 2025. He is expected to remain in the U23 next season and fight for first-team appearances rather than being loaned out.
Last December, Ornstein confirmed that Chelsea and Brighton were interested in bringing him in if Edwards did not renew his contract.
The young shooter's contract expires this summer, so he will receive a compensation payment if he moves to Arsenal.
Edwards is Arsenal's top scorer of the season, contributing 21 goals and five assists, but most of the goals come from the U18.
He started U23 this year but was reimbursed for an injury season at the end of February.
Arsenal's other top scorers – Barlogon, Moller, John Jules and Birres – will be in the first team or on loan next season, with three of them already on loan this season.
That would free up a U23 starting spot for Edwards, who could also get some playing time in the first team.
Arsenal breathed a sigh of relief at the news of the contract extension, after the club offered him multiple offers to persuade him to sign.
The player has always wanted to stay, he has dreams of playing in arsenal's first team but needs certain guarantees. With limited opportunities at U23 this season, coupled with interest from other teams, he will naturally consider other options.
Now that it looks like the players and club have settled the remaining differences, Edwards can focus on recuperating and preparing for next season.
