Stellantis said the renovation of the first assembly plant in Windsor will begin in 2023, followed by the renovation and modernization of the second depot in Brampton in 2024, and the two depots will be back in production by 2025.
The two depot refurbishments will enable Stellantis to use the new architecture to build pure trams and hybrids for several upcoming models. In addition, the company will expand a battery laboratory at its existing R&D facility in Canada, which is expected to create 650 new job vacancies.
At present, Stellantis has not said which model will be produced by the renovated factory, but it is expected that the two factories will add a third work shift after the overhaul, meaning that the factory will operate 24 hours a day. According to Stellantis' goal, the Group will sell 5 million electric vehicles per year by 2030, including all the cars the company sells in Europe and half of the MPV and pickup trucks it sells in North America.
