Italistic Federation cancels the initial points world ranking announcement Fan Zhendong Chen Meng both ranked first

On May 3, Beijing time, the International Table Tennis Federation announced the world ranking under the new rules. Due to the cancellation of the protective "initial points", there have been some changes in the position of men's singles and women's singles players, with Fan Zhendong occupying the top of the men's singles list, Ma Long second Liang Jingkun third, and Xu Xin falling to 81st. Women's singles Chen Meng, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu and Wang Yidi occupy the top four. Japan's Tomokazu Zhang and Mimachi Ito slipped to seventh in men's singles and sixth in women's singles, respectively. Women's doubles Wang Manyu / Sun Yingsha topped the list.

The ITTF Executive Committee previously approved the latest proposal developed by the World Rankings Working Group, and the "initial points" introduced in 2020 will be deleted in order to reduce the impact of the new crown epidemic on the event. Basically, the player's world ranking will be made up of the sum of the eight highest points scored in the last 12 months. This objective performance-based algorithm will be widely used to identify finalists and seeded players in the ITTF and WTT World Table Tennis Federation series.

Chinese player Wang Chuqin ranked 12th, Lin Gaoyuan dropped 8 places to 18th, and youngster Yuan Licen rose 77 places to 32nd. However, he is not the biggest beneficiary of the new rules, and the most obvious rise in the top 100 men's singles players is Chinese teenager Lin Shidong, who has improved his ranking by 331 places to 84th.
